News from the Library

The last day for library checkout is this Friday, May 26thAll books are due Friday, June 2nd.  If students are finished reading library books, please turn them in as soon as possible

Sometimes it is a challenge to find books!  Some ideas of where to search:

Desk at home or school, reading corner in your classroom, car (under seats, in the trunk), closet, under the bed, bookshelves at home.

If a book is lost, please email Melissa Dolenc, at mrdolenc@fcps.edu for information on how to pay for the book.

Summer Book Exchange

picture of books

The Summer Book Exchange is a fun event where students swap gently used books.  Books are being collected now through Monday, June 5. Students may bring in gently used books, leave them in the Summer Book Exchange bins (located by the front office and kiss-and-ride entrance), and take a receipt good for an equal number of books (up to 15 books per child). Please tell your kids to take only one receipt and write the total number of donated books on it. On June 6 and 7, each class will have a chance to go to the book exchange with their receipt and “shop” for their selections. We welcome book donations, especially for Grades 4-6. We also need volunteers to help us with this event. Volunteer now at our SignUpGenius page. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Tara Finnerty at tfinn2011@live.com.

Lost and Found

If you are missing any of your child's sweatshirts or jackets, please check the lost and found.  Items remaining on the last day of school will be donated.

Middle School Athletics Coming This Fall

FCPS has designated funding in the budget for 2023-24 for middle school spring and fall athletic activities to support student well-being at no cost to students. Pending budget adoption, this will be the first time FCPS has offered middle school students a chance to participate in extracurricular sports programs.

Middle schools will start with cross country this fall. Track will follow in spring 2024.

Any middle school students who would like to participate in athletics will need to have a Virginia High School League (VHSL) pre-participation examination (PPE). The physical exam form must be completed and signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Fairfax County public high schools will offer PPEs at a cost of $50 per student through June 17. Students who receive free or reduced meals are eligible to receive an exam at no cost.
