Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We finished the SOL testing this week for the majority of students. Only students who were absent for their test will take an SOL next week. Teachers began today to communicate to students preliminary scores that were released. SOL scores are expected to be posted in ParentVue the week of June 12th. They will be mailed to any parent without access to ParentVue.
We are very proud of the students. They took the exams seriously and worked with their best efforts. While this only represents a snapshot of the learning this year, we rely on good results to be a school in good standing. Thank you for your support of your student this week in coming prepared for these assessments!

Academic and Career Plan
All 8th grade students are working to develop an academic and career plan that supports their growth and helps them to plan for their future. Your student has been working with teachers and counselors to discover their personal strengths and interests. They are also working on goals to help them achieve success, plan for courses to meet high school graduation requirements, and prepare for life after high school. Students update their plan as their goals evolve.
The plan supports on time graduation and is required by the Virginia Department of Education. In the coming weeks, our 8th grade students are working with counselors through their English classes to continue to formalize their plan. Each student’s parent or guardian must review this plan at the end of 8th grade and again at the end of 10th grade.
At the end of the school year, you or your child can log into Naviance Student at www.fcps.edu/Naviance. Naviance supports more than 70 languages which parents can access from the icon in the top right corner of the website. Once in your child’s account, click the “About Me” tab and scroll down to :Portfolio.” Once you click on the Portfolio, you can view all that your child has completed. Once you review your child’s plan, complete the verification for at this link. The completion of the form will serve as your signature. Please complete this form by Friday, June 30, 2023.

Online Summer Campus
Middle and high school students who meet the course prerequisites can take one online course. Students who have completed a high school math course may take an online campus math class. Middle school students who expunged a high school math or Spanish course or those wanting to recover a course credit may take the course again. Students need to have a computer and make sure their computer is ready for the online course. Students will not be able to take online courses using tablets and smartphones. Online Campus courses and classes may be cancelled if they are under enrolled. If a course or class is cancelled, students will be notified using the registration contact information and a full refund will be given. Attendance Matters – Attend Today and Achieve Tomorrow!
Attending school every day is critical to students reaching their full potential. Showing up to school regularly helps students engage in learning that builds proficiency in reading and math that will help them to graduate from high school. Students who attend school regularly do better academically in middle school and are more likely to graduate from high school when they miss less than a week of school each semester. Attend today and achieve tomorrow!
Counselor Corner
This week during our Monday Connection class, students took the Career Cluster Finder survey through Naviance. This results of this survey indicate Career Clusters that are a fit for students based on interests and personal qualities. Career Clusters are a framework that organizes careers into Clusters and Pathways. These often align to academic programs and majors at schools and post-secondary institutions. We encourage parents/guardians to ask their student about their survey results. You can explore the results and recommendations with your student by logging onto Naviance.
Last Day for Late Buses
The last day for after school programs and late buses is Wednesday, May 31st. Parent pickup is required for students who stay after school with a teacher beyond that date.

Dear Parents:
Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program, but they help drive program improvement and program quality.
This Survey has been approved by FCPS and the seal approval number is 23234. All survey responses are due by Friday May 26, 2023.
