1.  A Note from Dr. Goodloe

Dear Charger Community,

As we look to take a break this weekend after a busy week of class activities and AP testing, we pause to thank our moms and celebrate Mother's Day. Wishing a very Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms and caregivers in our Chantilly community and on our staff.  We are grateful for your constant care and support. I encourage all in our Charger community to take some time to celebrate an important mom in your life this weekend.

Starting May 15, our daily bell schedule shifts to acccomodate SOL testing  Please note the schedule below and posted on student and family Schoology courses. You can also view the testing schedule on our website. https://chantillyhs.fcps.edu/student-services/testing/spring-sol-schedule

I continue to focus on making connections in our Chantilly community.  Here are a few highlights from this week:

Students:

  • It has been great to talk with students during class transitions, in the cafeteria, and after school to hear the great things happening at Chantilly each and every day. I am impressed with how thoughtful our students are and the care and concern they demonstrate for one another.
  • Our Leadership students have been busy planning for Homecoming week next year. They have been presenting possible themes and activities for next year's spirit week. Many great ideas have been shared and I look forward to hearing more about the plans.
  • Congratulations to our Girls Soccer and Boys and Girls Track and Field athletes who celebrated their senior nights this week. We wish all the members of the class of 2023 all the best!

Staff:

  • Congratulations to our five staff members who were nominated for SEPTA Awards: Mandy Burke, Kristen Fennel, Karen Fiala, Nick Thayer, and Rich Sarhanis.  Mandy Burke was recognized as Outstanding Administrator and Karen Fiala was awarded Outstanding General Education Teacher.
  • It has been a pleasure connecting with individual staff members in 1:1 meetings. As I get to know the amazing Chantilly Faculty and staff, I am so grateful for their committment to our Charger community. Many of our staff members are proud alumni, others have been proud members of the staff for many years, and others have been drawn to CHS recently for the engaged, supportive community. During these conversations, staff are sharing with me the best parts of Chantilly and where they believe we can grow. Together we will be developing our vision for the coming years focused on student support and community engagement.

Community:

  • Did you know that Chantilly High School hosts one of the largest Jazz Festivals in the region? Jazz bands from the area and around the country will be performing at CHS throughout the weekend. Thank you to our Chantilly Band Boosters for their support of this awesome event. Be sure to check it out this weekend! More information below.

I am looking forward to making many more Charger Connections in the coming weeks!  I hope to see you at CHS very soon.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with observations, suggestions, questions and celebrations. You can do that through e-mail (atgoodloe@fcps.edu), call 703-222-8100, or through the form located here. Please remember that if you do not include your information on the form, I will not be able to follow-up.

Schedule

2. The Chantilly Music Boosters is hosting our 41st Chantilly Jazz Festival, this weekend.

Thirty-one middle school and high school jazz bands and combos will travel to CHS (from as far away as Ohio!) to participate in this weekend’s festival.  Each student ensemble will perform on stage, receive recorded feedback from a panel of professional jazz educators/performers, followed by a post-performance clinic with another jazz educator.  Awards and scholarships are given to recognize top performing ensembles and individual student musicians!  It is a terrific weekend celebrating a prominent American art form!  This year’s festival also boasts feature ensembles, the Shawn Purcell Group, JazzWorx Big Band (including our very own Christopher Riechers), and the US Navy Band Commodores!  All performances are FREE and open to the public!  To view this year’s program and festival schedule, please click here.

4.  Recent Student Successes

This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students.  Dr. Goodloe meets with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

  • Elena Do has done an amazing job staying on top of the workload, and all of the expectations for a graduating senior. Elena is a kind and responsible student who we are confident will do well in her future endeavors.  Ms. Jill Mayer
  • Matthew Nicholls has been making improvements to his attendance. His efforts do not go unnoticed and SS3 is so very proud of his turn around.  Ms. Shuntina Taylor
  • Zachary Perry has worked hard this year. I am so proud of all of his effort. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!  Ms. Becky Clonts
