Hello Scottie Families!
We had an awesome kindergarten orientation yesterday! It was a joy to meet our newest Scotties and their parents, and we are looking forward to seeing them again during our summer kindergarten and new family "Popsicles on the Playground" events (dates TBD) and in August when we hold our 2023-2024 Open House.
What a fun day today, as we celebrated our April SCA Spirit Day, Wacky Tacky Day! It is always a treat to see our Scottie community showing their school spirit, including wearing Bonnie Brae blue and white. We also enjoyed an informative parent coffee this morning. Thank you to Ms. Maguire, 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Swartz, 5th grade teacher, and Ms. Cooper, instructional coach, who shared ways for parents to help support their students with SOL testing.
Finally, as a way to show our teachers how much we appreciate them during staff appreciation week (May 8-12), please consider volunteering to supervise students during recess. Feel free to sign up for one slot or many! See the section below for more information, or sign-up here.
Enjoy the time with your families this weekend!

SOL Testing Resources
As shared at our parent coffee this morning, here are some resources available to Bonnie Brae students to support with SOL test review.
Parent Input for Next Year's Class Placement
We are getting ready to discuss class placement for the 2023-24 school year and would love to get your input for consideration during these discussions. If you would like to provide input, please complete this form by May 19, 2023. We look forward to continuing this collaboration with you and your children to best support their learning needs.
Pilot of Online Registration Includes BBES
Online Registration (OLR) will be available at more than 30 pilot schools beginning Friday, March 31. All FCPS schools will offer online registration beginning in June.
Families will be able to register their students electronically via SIS ParentVUE. Directions to setting up a SIS ParentVUE account are on the online registration page.
The new system reduces manual data entry of basic student registration at all schools, allows online registration using the portal at any hour of any day, and enables secure electronic upload of student registration documents and storage, reducing paper records management. Parents/Guardians will continue to have the option of downloading the registration form bundle or paper registration forms as needed. Visit our website for more information on registering your child.
Bike and Roll to School Day
Join us Wednesday, May 3rd for Bike and Roll to School Day! Participate with the Bonnie Brae School Community by walking or riding your bike to school on May 3rd. Enjoy the many health benefits of biking or walking, as we partake in this great community event! We hope to see you walking or rolling on May 3rd!
Spring 2023 Data Collection for FCPS ESSER/RTS
FCPS’ Office of Research and Strategic Improvement (ORSI) will gather information about FCPS’ teaching and learning efforts this school year from school-based administrators, teachers, students, and families this spring. These data collection efforts are part of FCPS’ ongoing study of what is working and what needs improvement following the pandemic. This includes FCPS’ use of $188.8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funding to support the safe operation of schools and address the impacts of COVID-19 on students.
Surveys will be administered to students in grades 4 -12, all teachers, and all families from April 17 to May 1. The family survey has been translated into the major languages.
-
Family Survey: Survey links will be shared via email to the enrolling parent.
Thank you in advance for supporting data collection to inform FCPS about its teaching and learning efforts this year and help us best meet the needs of our students and staff.

Arrival & Dismissal Safety
The safety of our students, parents, and staff continues to be our top priority. Please see below for reminders of important safety procedures implemented here at Bonnie Brae during arrival and dismissal.
BUS LOOP
- In order for our buses to arrive and exit in a timely manner (to service the entire county), the bus loop needs to be clear of all personal vehicles at the following times:
- 8:10-8:45 am
- 3:00-3:45 pm
KISS & RIDE
- Speed Limit: <5 MPH
- Any students arriving by car must utilize the Kiss & Ride loop (or park in a designated parking space along Sideburn Road, with an adult walking their child to the front entrance)
- Yield to all pedestrians in the Kiss & Ride/parking lot entrance and be on the lookout for staff members helping students / parents cross the entry way
- When waiting to turn into Kiss & Ride, keep the entry and exit lanes clear of vehicles so students can cross safely with staff assistance
- When departing the Kiss & Ride loop, please only turn right onto Sideburn Road
- Only utilize parking along Sideburn Road that is designated for parking. “Double parking” is not permitted by Fairfax County and is a safety hazard to arriving/departing students and families.
- U-Turns on Sideburn Road are prohibited by Fairfax County
WALKERS
- Please continue to use the sidewalks to ensure safety of staff, students, community, and bus drivers
- Students and families should cross Sideburn Road at the designated crosswalk by Nellie White Ln.
