Today's message includes the following:
Dear Cub Run Families,
What gorgeous weather we've had this week! Our teachers took advantage of the sunny, cool weather to spend time learning outdoors. Earlier this week, our 4th graders had a visit from the Fairfax County Park Authority for science activities.
Starting tomorrow, many Cub Run families and staff will be celebrating Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the month-long Ramadan period of fasting. Many of our students and staff have fasted during this month, and we wish them all Eid Mubarak!
Warmly,
Natalie Lorenzi
Principal
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. Read more at Britannica.com.
FCPS has designated Eid al-Fitr as a religious and cultural observance day designed to allow students the opportunity to miss school for observances not already designated as school holidays. Eid al-Fitr is from sunset April 20 to sunset April 21. Thursday, April 20, is a half O Day, and Friday, April 21, is a holiday (only 12-month employees report). Understanding Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) Reports
Grade 3-8 students across Virginia took VGA tests in fall and winter of 2022-23. FCPS mailed score reports to families earlier this month that combine Fall and Winter results. When viewing students’ scores, it is important to keep in mind that there is no “passing” or “failing” for VGA tests and that each vertical scaled score reflects performance on a single day. VGA results should be used alongside other available data for a more complete picture of students’ academic progress. Also keep in mind that the VGA asks questions from the entire curriculum, including some standards that will not be taught until later in the school year.
The FCPS VGA Score Reports webpage now includes a section on Understanding VGA Results, featuring Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). This section will continue to be updated throughout the spring to address incoming questions and to reflect additional state guidance as it is released.

The conversation will continue on Monday, April 24, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Woodson High School. FCPS principals and staff will share what is happening in our schools and update the work to prevent substance misuse and educate our students.
Transportation will be available from select schools throughout the county. Transportation information can be found once you begin the registration process.

Seeking Families' Input for the 23-24 School Year
It's already time to start thinking about class groupings for our cubbies for the 2023-24 school year! We value families' input in this process and ask that you fill out this form to let us know if your student will be returning to Cub Run next year. For those who are planning to return, there is an option on the form to tell us more about the type of learning environment that best serves your child, as well as any other considerations for us to keep in mind as we create class groupings for next year. We ask that families not make requests for specific teachers.

We are in need of volunteers to pick up flowers each Friday from Trader Joe's in Reston, VA. If you think you might be able to lend a hand, please look at the dates here and sign up for a date that you are available!
