Greetings Glen Forest Families,
Welcome to the Glen Forest Front Office: Please give a warm welcome to our newest Office Assistant, Emma Young. She brings many skills and talents to the already amazing staff in our front office. Welcome, Ms. Young!
Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Information: Screening for Subject Specific (Level II) and Part-Time (Level III) Services: Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners. Screening for Subject Specific (Level II) and Part-Time (Level III) Services Students can be screened for subject specific and part time AAP services at any time in the school year. In the spring, schools review data on all students to determine services for the start of the next school year. Parents or guardians can initiate the screening process by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) or Assistant Principal by April 15, annually.

Parents or guardians who submit a referral will be notified by the local elementary school of their student’s eligibility status by early June.

College & Career Week: We are excited to host a College & Career Week at Glen Forest the week of May 30th - June 2nd. We are hoping to have guests come speak to students about the work they do. Students would love to hear about a variety of careers and work, what each job entails every day, the training received, what important skills you need to know, and more. If you or someone you know are interested and available to come to school to share about your work experiences or share with a short video, please contact our school counselor, Sarah Jacoby, at scjacoby@fcps.edu or 703-578-8127. Please think about any other friends or family that might be great to share with our students. We are looking forward to sharing about the many opportunities our students can explore in the future!
Spring Lane and Dismissal: It has been brought to our attention that some parents are parking cars in the middle of the street or blocking other cars on Spring Lane at dismissal. If you park your car on Spring Lane and meet your child at Door 4, please park in an appropriate spot. Thank you for your cooperation.
Volunteer Opportunity! We are looking for parents to supervise our newest collaboration station called the Eagles’ Nest. The Nest, which looks like a lounge area, is housed within our cafe and will provide students an opportunity to collaborate, communicate, create, and think critically while playing games and solving puzzles. Classes will access the Nest with their classes before and/or after the lunch block, or students will be able to access the area once they have finished eating their lunch. This is where we need your help! We are looking for parents to supervise/manage the Eagles’ Nest during the lunch blocks. Please email our Administrative Assistant, Karla Mandujano at kemandujano@fcps.edu if you are able to help. Thank you in advance and thank you to Title 1 for the funds to purchase the furniture and games!
