CES Weekly Update 4.12.23

Principal's Message

What a beautiful week to welcome our students back to school.

I have to give a huge shoutout today to our FCPS facilities team and share the great support that we have as a school from many great departments. Taking care of a school is no easy feat and the constant upkeep is met with amazing support.

I wanted to share with you just a few ways we are so incredibly supported by the FCPS team you can't see and the work that goes behind the scenes, because it is important.

As you can tell driving along Kirby, we had many overgrown older bushes removed by our FCPS grounds crew. While they were here, they cleaned up many downed branches in the back and took care of an exposed root on a tree. You must also know that our custodial crew takes great pride not only inside the building cleaning but caring for the landscape around our school and within our courtyards.

Over break, our tent was vandalized and cords cut to secure the tent to the ground. It was really sad to see that this was done as well as tables overturned for us to needlessly have to clean up. Facilities and safety quickly took the report and properly secured the tent with new stakes. If you have any information on who may have been involved in this vandalism, I encourage you to reach out to me. It's sad to see this in our community.

After getting water leaking into our Art room closet Monday, our facilities support team uncovered a broken HVAC water pipe below the school in a crawl space. It was quickly turned off and will be repaired in the coming days. We quickly had HVAC and plumbers out to help us find the cause and come up with a solution. The area they had to navigate was no fun either! I'm so thankful to be able to pick up the phone and know we have many reliable individuals ready to help support our staff, students and ensure we have a lovely building to work within.

The PTA funded along with a grant from the McLean Community Foundation for a new electronic marquee that is expected to be delivered this week. Our FCPS facilities team has worked with the installation vendor to take care of delivery this week and we will see our new board in action very soon. If you want photos of the old and new, you better get your photos with the old marquee ASAP.

Furthermore, our PTA funded our pond cleanup this spring which was completed over the break. The turtles and fish seem so much happier. It has been a joy to return from break and see spring in action as our trees are budding, the fish and turtles are coming out of the winter rest and our building continues to bustle with children working hard and enjoying recess to its fullest on our beautiful playground.

I could not be more excited to welcome our new Kindergarten families, hear of new families moving into our community and talk with other families returning from private school settings. Chesterbrook is a great place to be!

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Online Registration

Online Registration (OLR)is available for Chesterbrook Elementary.

Families will be able to register their new FCPS students electronically via SIS ParentVUE. Directions to setting up a SIS ParentVUE account are on the online registration page.

The new system reduces manual data entry of basic student registration at all schools, allows online registration using the portal at any hour of any day, and enables secure electronic upload of student registration documents and storage, reducing paper records management. Parents/Guardians will continue to have the option of downloading the registration form bundle or paper registration forms as needed. Visit our website for more information on registering your child.

Kindergarten Orientation is Friday

We are excited to meet our incoming Kindergarten class!

Spread the word and save the date for an event our rising kindergarten families do not want to miss. Your students will enjoy many aspects of school during this special event. Kindergarten Orientation is planned for Friday, April 14th from 1 - 3 PM. Our PTA will be providing the first playdate after the event with popsicles on the playground.

We welcome your registration documents prior to then. Complete the online registration found here. Please feel free to contact our registrar, Dave Troskey, or call our front office with questions. Tours of our school will happen during our event for all families in attendance.
