Congratulations to Ms. Haeyoung Lee for being recognized by the FCPS School Board for her accomplishments accomplishing the very rigorous task of being a Nationally  Board Certified Teacher.  We are all #MajorProud of her!

Mount Vernon Student’s designed artwork for Richmond Highway BRT stations


Mount Vernon High School was responsible for designing art concepts for the Woodlawn and Fort Belvoir BRT stations. The overarching themes for the stations had been previously discussed at community meetings and approved by the BRT Executive Committee. Read the entire article here.

PTSA presentation on Opportunities in the Building Trades


MVHS was so pleased to host the PTSA presentation on Opportunities in the Building Trades. Students signed up to hear about career opportunities in the swimming pool industry, the vinyl siding industry, home building trades and the WISH foundation, which offers training in multiple trades in construction, health care and more. A big thank you to the PTSA for coordinating and presenting this important seminar.

March Wellness Day


On March 28, MVHS will host a wellness day.  Our schedule will be changed to place Major Time at the end of the day.  Students will be able to move freely from one activity to another during Major Time on March 28, so if you plan for an early dismissal, please make prior arrangements for where and when your students should meet you for pick up.


CALLING ALL YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS! 


Kid Biz Inc. is sponsoring a FREE event for you to showcase your talents. Whether you are an aspiring artist, inventor, entrepreneur or looking to start and grow a business this is the place for you! On May 13th and Hayfield Secondary there will be over 100 booths of kids with AMAZING ideas and businesses. It is free to attend and free to host a booth. Booths are available to any student in grades 1-12! There will be guest judges, networking opportunities, community leaders and members ready to support these young professionals.

Laura Ashley Piper - $1000

Criteria: Any Fairfax County high-school senior may apply and return their package to their school College and Career Specialist, if they meet the following criteria:

  • Is a United States citizen.
  • Is a graduating senior currently enrolled at a Fairfax County Public Schools high school.
  • Demonstrates personal integrity, student leadership, and service to school and community
  • Demonstrates academic excellence
  • Demonstrates athletic merit
  • Students must ask their school counselor to complete the Recommendation Form (p. 6), who will deliver it to the student’s high school College and Career Specialist.
  • The student must ask their school counselor to include with their letter of recommendation, the student’s current unofficial transcript

Our next general meeting is Wednesday, March 15th, at 7pm. We are excited to have our speaker, Attorney Deborah Matthews, join us to talk about the rights & responsibilities of our kids once they turn 18.
