March 3, 2023
This week has been full of focus and fun at Fairfax. We leaned into our POG attributes and looked at school programs that are committed to creating well-rounded global and ethical citizens. We remain committed to promoting next level options for all students, everyday. We celebrated our amazing students FBLA success at Regionals and six of our lions are moving on to state competition. Our DECA bus was packed this am with over 81 motivated leaders and entrepreneurs ready to present at the state tournament. We offered an electric send off with drums, noisemakers and tambourines! Also, heading to the state competition is our talented theater department, they will take the stage with their award winning one-act play-Wit. It is phenomenal.
Music makes the people come together and the sounds of our orchestra did not disappoint this week at their Spring Concert. We also celebrated students and parents enrolled in our SCAN Family Program, the night was filled with community, curriculum, culture and care. Every afternoon you can feel the energy of our community as clubs and activities meet to elevate their interests and activities one example of this is our Science Olympiads who were named Regional Champions in FCPS!
Spring sports are also underway at FHS and many teams will take the fields next week to kick off their seasons, be sure to check out the schedule.
The trees and flowers are beginning to bloom and all things are "roar"ing here at the FHS campus.
Every Student, Every Strength, Every Day here at Fairfax High.
Yours in partnership,
Chris Whitney, Speech & Drama Teacher, and Director of FX Players
Chris Whitney is in his 3rd year at Fairfax High School, but his 16th year of teaching. Growing up in the DMV area, he never thought about teaching as a profession, but after his wife convinced him to try it for 1 year, he finds himself 16 years later with nothing else he would rather do. He also credits his former theatre teacher, Ken Knesh, for inspiring him to not only act but teach. Mr. Whitney earned his BFA in theatre with a concentration in acting from Howard University and his master's in theatre at Regent University. He has performed at a few professional theatres in the DC area, including Arena Stage and the Shakespeare theatre, where he was in a show with Pedro Pascal. Mr. Whitney has also performed in several community theatres in the Shenandoah Valley. However, his favorite stage is his own living room, where he plays pretend with his two children, Gabe and Ella. He is (unfortunately) a fan of all the DC sports teams.
FHS Theatre Students to compete at State VHSL One-Acts!

Our Fairfax HS Theatre students WON the VHSL REGION Theatre One Act play, Wit, and will compete for a STATE championship tomorrow, March 4, in Charlottesville, VA. Congrats to our cast and crew for an amazing performance. Break Legs!!
