Dear Dogwood Families,

Every Tuesday, students from local middle and high schools who are classically trained artists, come to Dogwood and teach piano, strings and mixed media art in our cafeteria. Ella and Emma Kim, along with their mother, first came to Dogwood to perform for our students last year. They fell in love with Dogwood and decided to come back and to teach their craft. This group of young volunteers have created ITZART 4 You. Our students are engaged in semi private lessons and have developed beautiful relationships with their mentors. Fox 5 news came to Dogwood and did a short segment on our students and the ITZART 4 You mentors. The story should air tomorrow, Friday, February 3rd, during the evening news. Please watch and see one of the many wonderful things happening at Dogwood.

On February 7th, we will host Pastries with Parents. This is a time that you will learn how to help your students access math while enjoying a morning pastry. It will begin at 8:10 AM. Please see your child’s Thursday folder for the flier and the RSVP which is required.

With gratitude,

Kate Beckner, Principal

Kim Seck, Assistant Principal

Daphne Holliday, Assistant Principal

Text-To-Speech FCPS Websites

FCPS is introducing an innovative way to address the diverse needs of the community. A new text-to-speech feature, available on the FCPS website and each school website, will read the words aloud from webpages.

The feature will help those with accessibility needs, such as visual impairments, dyslexia, or other difficulty reading large amounts of online text. The text-to-speech feature is available for English, Spanish, and Korean. Learn more and try out the new feature.

Attendance

Start the third quarter off with improved attendance. Daily attendance routines, created at home or in school, can reduce stress for students and families and create a sense of safety and security, especially after chaotic transitions.

Staying Healthy This Cold/Flu Season

Although the community level of COVID-19 in Fairfax County is currently low, cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses are on the rise. It continues to be important to wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, monitor your health daily, and stay home if you are sick. For more tips, visit our Return to School website.

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Dogwood.
