ST Math Winter Puzzle Challenge

St Math Winter Challenge

All students at Dranesville Elementary School are participating in the ST Math Winter Puzzle Challenge. Our goal is to have an average school-wide puzzle completion of 50 puzzles each week from January 17th -February 13th.

Winter Waddle Week 1

We are so proud of our mathematicians for completing an average of 54 ST Math puzzles during the first week of this challenge!

This is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your child about their ST Math Journey. When students log into ST Math through Clever, they are able to see their personal puzzle completion progress.

Dranesville Loves to Read Day

DES Dragon Red Heart

February 14th is Dranesville Loves to Read Day! Let's bring on the joy and share our love for reading! Families are welcome to be part of our celebration of reading by sharing a story in your child's classroom. If you would like to be a guest reader, please send an email or Talking Points message to your child's teacher.

Join our Black History Month Celebration

As part of our celebration of Black History Month, Dranesville will be hosting three nights of teachers and parents reading books to our families.  These readings will occur from February 21-23 from 7pm - 7:30 via Zoom.

If you are interested in reading a book in either English or Spanish please sign up using this Google Form (English and Spanish) .  If you have a book you would like to read, please indicate the title in the Google Form.  DES also has books in both English and Spanish that we can lend you to read.

Readers can connect at home or from school. If you would like to read/connect from school, please contact Carrie Hester at cmhester@fcps.edu. Thank you for being a part of Dranesville's celebration of Black History Month.

School Board Reviews Draft School Year Calendar Options

School Year Calendar Development

At their January 17 work session, the School Board discussed draft calendars that were created for the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years. Draft calendars were developed using the following criteria as a framework:

  • Federal, state, and Virginia Department of Education guidance.
  • Superintendent’s priorities.
  • School Board input.
  • Student absentee data.
  • Staff absentee data.
  • Surrounding jurisdictions’ calendars.
  • Survey results.
  • Calendar Feedback Committee input.

You may view the draft calendars and other related documents in Boarddocs. The calendars will be presented as new business during the School Board meeting on Thursday, January 26. The Board is scheduled to vote on the calendars during their meeting on Thursday, February 9.

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care.

We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Dranesville.
