Churchill Chatter School Newsletter - UPDATED

Churchill Chatter - Issue 12, January 20, 2023

Dear Churchill Road Families,

Just a reminder that next week we have an earlier dismissal on Wednesday and student holidays on Thursday and Friday.

Additionally, we are continuing to collect money for Rise Against Hunger.  We only need approximately $1200 more to reach our goal of $3050!  Thank you to those who have already supported this endeavor.

This week there have been a lot of creative learning opportunities for our students.

  • Kindergarteners started their community helper Project Based Learning (PBL).  Students picked a helper and researched how the helpers contribute to our community.
  • First graders learned about Jamestown colony.
  • Students in second grade learned about different genres of poetry and even wrote their own!
  • Third graders continued to craft their Ancient Egypt PBL.
  • Fourth graders continued working on realistic fiction papers, focusing on  character development.
  • Fifth graders used different mineral properties to conduct a lab and identify "mystery" samples.
  • Sixth grade students prepared for group presentations about the weather conditions they researched  (temperature, wind speed, air pressure) including explaining safety precautions people should take.

Thank you to all who have participated in the grade level parent coffees!  We value your feedback and ideas as we work together to support the needs of each individual student here at Churchill Road Elementary!  Look for additional dates next week for the next round of grade level parent coffees!

Warmly,

Jen Niccolls and Cherith Pierson-Barr
