Thoreau Matters

January 20, 2023

Dear Thoreau Families,

It is hard to believe, but the second quarter will end on January 25 with an early dismissal at 12:15 PM. The 26th and 27th are student holidays to provide time for professional development and planning for our staff. As was referenced earlier today in the eNotify you received, students should log in to StudentVue over the long weekend (Saturday, January 28 or Sunday, January 29) to check their schedule before returning to school on Monday so they know where to report for 2nd period.

SIS ParentVue and SIS StudentVue Gradebook and Report Card Modules will be unavailable Wednesday, Jan 25, at 4 PM until Monday, Feb 6,  at 6 AM in order for teachers to finalize second quarter grades. A copy of your child’s report card will be mailed home the first week of February and on Saturday, February 4, report cards will be visible in SIS StudentVue and ParentVue.

We are in the midst of the academic advising season as we plan for next year. We have been hosting counselors from our feeder high schools to speak to our 8th graders to discuss course options for next year and students have had excellent behavior and participation. Stay tuned for more information about rising 8th grade academic advising and course registration information, as well as our rising 7th grade activity fairs, curriculum night and family open house! Thoreau’s Student Services team is committed to helping each child during these exciting transitions and I know you will join me in thanking them for their care and dedication!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Teresa Khuluki

Principal

Cross Town Hoops

Cross Town Hoops will be taking place on Wednesday, March 15th, at Marshall High School at 6PM! This annual tradition allows Thoreau MS and Kilmer MS to go head-to-head in a four-game basketball tournament.

There will be a Cross Town Hoops interest meeting taking place during after-school on Monday, January 23rd during 1st session (2:25pm-3:20pm). For any student interested in trying out, please attend the meeting where you will learn more information about the tryouts and the practice schedule. This meeting is only for students, not parents.

As a reminder, the Cross Town teams for both the boys and girls 7th and 8th grade teams are very competitive and not all students who attend the tryouts will make the teams. The coaches try to treat the Cross Town teams like high school teams, where students will make the teams based on their talent, attitude and dedication to the team. Parents, please remember that just because you may be interested in having your child play, does not automatically mean they will make the team.

We know this will be an amazing community event and we look forward to sharing more details about tickets in the future.
