1/17/23 News from the Nest: Family Edition
Greetings Glen Forest Families,
I hope this email finds you and your family off to a strong start in 2023! With the new year comes new habits. Moving forward, please expect a message from me, your principal, every Sunday at 4:00pm. I will provide any school-wide updates, reminders, and important dates to add to your calendar. In addition, we will continue to send home fliers in the Tuesday folders and send short reminders via text message.
Administrator Contacts: We have welcomed our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Jessica Green, who has stepped in and is already making an impact on our school community. Please see the updated contacts for each grade level below.
Liz Manning, AP contact for Kindergarten, Second, and Fifth Grade @ eamanning1@fcps.edu
Coretta Brown, AP contact for First, Third, and Fourth Grade @ cbrown2@fcps.edu
Jessica Green, AP for Pre-K and Special Education @ jgreen@fcps.edu
Family Engagement Opportunities:
Guided School Tours - From February through June, we will be hosting guided tours on the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30am - 10:30am. There is no need to sign up, just show up and remember to bring your photo ID. After a tour of the building, there will be a Q & A session in the cafe. The tours will be the same each month, although you can attend more than once if you’d like. The specific dates are 2/8/23, 3/8/23, 4/12/23, 5/10/23, and 6/14/23.
Parent/Principal Coffees - I invite you in to chat with me and hear about school updates on the fourth Wednesday of the month, from 9:45am - 10:45am in the cafe beginning in January. There is no need to RSVP, just come. Please do not forget your photo ID. I look forward to conversing with you! The specific dates are 1/25/23, 2/22/23, 3/22/23, 4/26/23, and 5/24/23.
Friendly Reminders Regarding Dismissal: If you need to pick up your child for early dismissal, please do so before 3:30pm. This will avoid any confusion at the last minute when the school-wide dismissal procedures begin. Kiss N Ride should not be used unless it is a regular routine for your child. Our Kiss N Ride system is very structured and the students have specific numbers assigned. Your students should either be a bus rider, a walker (using Door 4), or a Kiss N Ride student. Thank you very much for your cooperation!
Birthdays: Please do not send in treats (cake, cupcakes, candy, etc) for your child’s birthday. Every child’s birthday is special and is recognized on the Morning News Show Announcements. Every child also receives a birthday card and a pencil from the principals.
