Dragon

Dear Dogwood families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and are ready to jump start a great beginning to 2023. We have enjoyed welcoming all the smiling faces back to school. Our New Year’s resolution is to continue to engage families in their child’s learning so that you can participate in their success from home. We hope you join us in this resolution.

Thank you to all the families that supported your student through the ST Math challenge! We had over 150 students take their school computers home and engage with ST Math! This program helps students learn math through solving puzzles. Thank you for partnering in your child’s education. You are their first teacher and we need this partnership for our students to be successful. We have 3 students who have won robots for completing the highest amount of puzzles and we will recognize all students who participated. However, although robots are awesome, the real prize is closing gaps in our child’s understanding of math concepts.

We welcome 2023 and all the greatness that it holds. May it be a wonderful year for you, your friends and families as well.

We look forward to partnering with you,

Kate Beckner, Principal

Attendance

Start the new year off with improved attendance. Daily attendance routines, created at home or in school, can reduce stress for students and families and create a sense of safety and security, especially after chaotic transitions.

Staying Healthy This Cold/Flu Season

Although the community level of COVID-19 in Fairfax County is currently low, cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses are on the rise. It continues to be important to wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, monitor your health daily, and stay home if you are sick. For more tips, visit our Return to School website.

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Dogwood.
