FHS College Night

FHS College & Career Specialist, Maureen Kim, welcomed representatives from University of Kentucky, UVA, Dartmouth, and University of Rochester at the recent College Night for Juniors. Over 200 students and family members attended!

January 13, 2023

This week’s word is FOCUSED! We focused on all things academic, all things student interest, and all things future planning here at Fairfax! We had a great evening welcoming over 200 families to College Night as they engaged with an admissions panel and began to think about what schools may be the “right fit.”

Today, our elective classroom visits piqued many interests as students were able to visit their TOP 4 elective choices and gain some perspectives on course content and plan for their course registrations in the next few weeks.

Curriculum and Culture night next Friday will offer additional insights into coursework and choices here at FHS for rising 9th graders and ALL current students and families; we will also provide childcare (ages 5-10), language services and snacks.

Seniors were ROARing during their class meeting as we began to think about the semester two finish line and all the upcoming fabulous events.

At the City of Fairfax schoolboard meeting this week, we were able to celebrate field hockey, highlight teacher and student voices around foreign language and dual enrollment, and discuss engaging our future lions in elementary and middle school with fun and exciting activities; we also welcomed our new school board member.

Arts are always on our minds here at FHS and our Lions are focused on practice, performance, and pizzazz. Congratulations to our 15 All District Band Members on their recent recognition. “Life is a Cabaret” tonight at FHS, where our choir will host a unique showcase of talent in the atrium at 7:00.

Looking for some fun evening events this Winter, check out our activities and athletics office where any given night you can catch a wrestling match, basketball game, or gymnastics meet. Our swim team, winter track, and hockey teams have also been busy in competition this season.

Stay Warm and Stay Focused FHS!

Every Student, Every Strength, Every Day here at Fairfax High.

Yours in partnership,

How to Find Weather Closings/Delays

Winter Weather

With winter weather on the horizon, please take a moment to watch this video detailing how weather-related closing decisions are made

FCPS’ website is generally the first mode of communication during emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated

Be sure to plan ahead for the winter season. Parents/caregivers should confirm their contact information is up-to-date in weCare@school (or, if you are an Employee, UConnect), in order to receive emails and text messages from FCPS. Bookmark the FCPS website, plan for childcare, if appropriate, and know what items your child may need to take home before a weather event.
