Brookfield's Salad Bar Returns January 23rd!

Salad Bar

We are excited to have our salad bar back after a two year absence!  While our older students may remember the fresh fruit, vegetables and proteins, many others will have never seen it and won't know how it works.  We need your help!

While students will be reviewing how the salad bar works during Morning Meetings next week, we are looking for lunch time volunteers to help our students navigate this returning option.  Information about what's required is here and a sign up sheet is here.

Thank you for your consideration!

Goodies with Guardians

Guardians of Brookfield students are welcome to come in to share a breakfast goodie together with their student! There isn't a planned agenda...it's just a chance for us to spend some time together!

Please join us for our "Goodies with Guardians" event on Tuesday, February 14 from 7:45 - 8:05 in Brookfield's cafeteria.

We hope to see you there!

Parents who are interested in the DLI programs in FCPS are encouraged to attend an informational meeting at their school site. Meetings will begin on January 11. Details regarding access to virtual meetings will be available on the Dual Language Immersion registration page by the meeting date.

Building and Renovation Plan Focuses on High Quality Facilities

Fairfax County Public Schools outlined plans to build three new elementary schools and to acquire land that will be used for a new high school during the School Board meeting on December 15.

Other projects include three new and/or repurposed school facilities, the renovation of 25 schools, and the relocation of modular buildings. Timelines for capital projects will be posted on CIP project web pages, where you can follow the progress of each approved project.

The proposed CIP will be discussed at the January 10 School Board work session. A public hearing is scheduled for January 12. The School Board is scheduled to take action on February 9. Read more in the CIP news release

School Improvements Supported by County Bonds

Capital projects reflect a $205 million investment approved by Fairfax County voters in the November 2021 bond referendum.

Funding allocations to FCPS from bond sales have increased in recent years due to positive collaboration and partnerships between the Joint CIP Committee of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the School Board. FCPS appreciates the continued support from Fairfax County leadership.

Voters will have the opportunity to approve additional bond funding for school projects included in the CIP in November 2023, which will support the division’s ability to continue to work through construction and renovation needs.

Grade 6 Students: Climate Survey

During the week of January 23, students in Grade 6 will complete the online Virginia Climate Survey.  The survey does not ask for your child’s name and all answers are anonymous. No one, including teachers or administrators, will know how your child answered the survey. You will not have access to your child’s survey answers even as their parent or guardian.

You may review the questions asked in the student survey at this website: https://tinyurl.com/VaSchoolSurvey.

The survey will ask questions such as how students feel about their school, how students get along with one another and their teachers, how students feel about school rules, and their perceptions of their teachers’ willingness to help them. Students will also be asked what kinds of bullying they may have observed during school and whether they have been bullied themselves.

If you do not want your child to participate, please email Ms. Sisler in your home language by Friday, January 20th at masisler@fcps.edu.

SEL Screener Information

Families of students in grades 3-6 who completed the SEL Screener during the fall window will be receiving a mailed report of the survey results this month. The survey offers valuable information about a student’s SEL (social emotional) skills, relationships, school environment, and well-being. Parents and guardians can use the Family Guide to understand their student’s SEL Screener outcomes and facilitate discussions at home about the results. If you have further questions and/or concerns, please feel free to reach out to a member of the Brookfield Elementary School Wellness Team.
