FCPS students continue to find incredible ways to serve their community while building Portrait of a Graduate skills such as becoming an ethical and global citizen. FCPS is excited to collaborate again with Volunteer Fairfax for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend of Service, Saturday, January 14, to Monday, January 16. This service opportunity helps empower individuals and strengthens communities while honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Volunteer Fairfax will host several ways for the community to get involved including volunteer activities for students and adults of all ages. To learn more about the MLK Jr. Weekend of Service and the specific service activities, visit Volunteer Fairfax’s website.

Information for Rising 7th Graders

Upcoming Frost MS events for 6th grade families

We are eager to begin our upcoming transition activities with our future Frost Falcons!  Please mark your calendars for our Rising 7th Grade Orientation on January 26th and the Frost Family Festival on February 9th.  More information is included below on each of these events.

The Rising 7th Grade Orientation is for current 6th grade students who will be attending Frost in the 2023-24 school year and their parents.  This will take place virtually on January 26th at 6:30 PM. During this event you will hear from administration and school counselors who will provide an overview of Frost Middle School, course selection opportunities and the selection process.  The link for this event will be sent in January.  A recording of the event will be available for those who cannot attend on our Frost Student Services website here.

Please submit questions you may have about transitioning to 7th Grade at Frost Middle School.  We will do our best to incorporate as many answers to your questions during the orientation. Please use this link to submit questions.

Frost will also be having the Frost Family Festival (in-person) on February 9th beginning at 5:30 PM.  This is a great opportunity to get a school tour and visit elective classes to help confirm desired course selections.  More information to come!


Teaching Disability Awareness

Between January 17 – 25, 2023 Wakefield Forest will be continuing our work around equity with a focus on increasing disability awareness. Ms. Prindle will be sharing the book We’re All Wonders on the morning news and teachers and other staff will be sharing about visible and invisible disabilities.

We need volunteers in our library to help with checking books in and out for students and shelving books for the rest of this school year. The Magnet Program registration window will be open from Wednesday March 1, through Wednesday, April 12, 2023.  No late applications are accepted.

Come Have Dessert on Broadway!

Woodson High School Chorus presents: Dessert on Broadway!  Performances will be on Friday, January 27th at 7 pm and Saturday, January 28th at 2 pm and 7 pm in the Woodson High School Joan C. Bedinger Auditorium.  

This Broadway Revue show is great entertainment for all ages, a wonderful musical theater experience children, parents, and grandparents can enjoy together. The show is fully staged with costumes and live band accompaniment.  A sample of the musicals Woodson students will be performing songs from: Guys and Dolls, The Sound of MusicHamiltonMatildaThe Lion KingLes Miserables . . .

And it wouldn't be Dessert on Broadway without the Dessert!  Patrons come before the show to enjoy a dessert and beverage in the DOB Cafe.  A highlight is the traditional Black Magic Cake.  Dessert service will be from 5:45-6:45 for the evening shows and 12:45-1:45 for the matinee.

It's Game Time! Turnpike Basketball Nights @Woodson

Woodson High School's Sports Leadership class is hosting two Turnpike basketball nights, one for boys and one for girls, where two teams scrimmage each other at halftime of Woodson basketball games. All Turnpike players can get into the Woodson basketball game for free if wearing their jersey and are accompanied by a paying adult. The girls will play on 1/27 and the boys on 1/20.

Preparing Families for Difficult Conversations about Alcohol and Drugs

On Tuesday, January 17th from 6-8pm at Woodson HS in Cavalier Hall, (room K102A) FCPS's Student Safety & Wellness Office is presenting an ADULTS ONLY program, "Preparing Families for Difficult Conversations about Alcohol  Drugs."

What knowledge and information do you have to engage in meaningful conversation with your children about drugs? In this presentation you will understand basic information about alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, and opioids; learn what you can do as a caregiver; and, identify & connect with community resources.

If you are unable to attend this in-person event, a similar virtual presentation will take place on Wednesday, February 15th. Additional information on how to access the virtual presentation will be shared closer to the event.
