Welcome to Our New Staff

We are very thankful  to our long term substitute  music teacher, Ms. Debroy.  She did an outstanding job and she will be missed by our students and staff!  We wish her the best as she pursues her performing career.  Ms. Zoe Susser will be our new music teacher starting on January 3.

Ms. Garfield, part time art teacher, will be on maternity leave. Ms. Oksana Howard will be the long term substitute and will also be starting on January3.

A message from Ms. Susser

I am so excited to be joining your community. I was born in Illinois, but I moved to Northern Virginia when I was 8. I just graduated from Seton Hall University in New Jersey with a degree in Music Education. I was part of the Loudoun Youth Symphony Orchestra in high school. I was a member of my high school's band and orchestra programs, as well as the choir program in college.

I believe that music is a great way to connect to people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests. I have been passionate about music for a long time, and I enjoy listening to and playing various genres in my spare time and in ensembles. My primary instrument is the violin, but I also love learning new instruments in my spare time.

When I am not teaching, you can find me walking my dog, Lily, or watching Friends. I greatly look forward to learning more about my students and the Sunrise Valley community!"

A message from Ms. Howard

I feel privileged to be a part of the Sunrise Valley school community as a long-term substitute art teacher! I have many years of experience teaching art to students ranging from preschool to high school age. Before coming to Northern Virginia, I lived in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and Southern Africa. This December I am graduating with a Master’s in Art Teaching degree from George Mason University. Prior to this, I earned a Graduate Certificate in Reggio Emilia
Approach from Antioch University.

I believe that young children are equal citizens of our society and are full of prior knowledge. The pedagogy of listening is the guiding light of my teaching
style. When I am not teaching or studying, I spend time knitting and sewing with my daughters, creating collages and sculptures with recycled materials, baking bread, and gardening. I look forward to working with the students and discovering their unique creative voices and talents through non-verbal art languages!
