Attendance Matters
15 Days Strong

Congratulations to our 285 Dragons who finished 2022 #15DaysStrong and to all of our Dragons for giving, being, and doing their best every day!

We are looking forward to our next attendance recognition and celebration, which will be in just a few short weeks. Students will be recognized for perfect and outstanding attendance as well as improved attendance since first quarter.

If your child must stay home due to illness, please notify our attendance line 703-326-5252 or email DranesvilleElem.Attendance@fcps.edu.

Supporting Learning at Home
Learning Resources

Our  goal directed and resilient scholars are consistently setting, achieving, and their exceeding personal goals. Each student at Dranesville has personal ST Math and Lexia goals for the school year. Regardless of your child's grade level or where they are on their learning continuum, these adapted programs are a tremendous support to their learning.

ST Math and Lexia are available through Clever in Schoology.

Learning In Community Family Math Week
Family Math Week

Let's join our entire FCPS community for a week of family math, January 9th- January13th.

All content will be available completely free on the website starting January 9, 2023. To access the games, families will be able to simply click on the day of the week and find their child's grade and language. View the website at anytime for explanations and videos.

Families can play for as little as 15 minutes or up to an hour. For families that want to reduce screen time, there will be physical print options for access to the content and games as well.

Our goal is for FCPS to experience 1,000,000 minutes of math outside of the school day. Any and ALL math experiences outside of a normal week count. Let's do this, Dranesville families! The family time is invaluable and all of those minutes engaging in family math add up. Will your family commit to 15 minutes of Family Math each evening next week?

Online Tutoring Available for All FCPS Students

Tutor.com

Unless they’ve been opted out, students can access Tutor.com through Schoology. Every session is personalized to meet the needs of the student from remedial to advanced levels. We encourage families to take advantage of this resource to support and extend students' learning at home.

Questions not answered in the posted resources on FCPS’ Tutor.com webpage may be sent to onlinetutoring@fcps.edu.

SEL Screener Results

Fairfax County Public Schools students in grades 3-6 complete the SEL screener, unless opted out by a parent or guardian. This survey offers valuable information about students' SEL skills, relationships, school environment, and well-being. Results are being mailed to families this first week of January.

There are resources available online to provide families information on understanding the Screener Report as well as for supporting conversations about the Screener and the domains: Supports and Environments, Skills and Competencies, and Well-being.

Morning Meeting and Responsive Advisory Meeting: Building Positive Classroom Communities through Social and Emotional Learning

One of the ways that all students at Dranesville are supported in these domains are through school-wide daily implementation of Morning Meeting. Our school community connects through a school-wide morning news show featuring messaging from students. The morning news show is followed by a Morning Meeting during which classroom communities engage in activities to strengthen connection, belonging, and set a positive tone for a day of learning.

The FCPS Parent Resource Center is hosting  a webinar so families can hear about how teachers and school staff are building positive schoolwide and classroom communities through social and emotional learning.

During this session, families will:

  • Learn about the evidence-based Responsive Classroom practices of Morning Meeting and Responsive Advisory Meeting.
  • Understand how teachers are using these practices to engage students in learning that is challenging, developmentally appropriate, and supportive of the whole child.
  • Learn new tips so you can continue these responsive practices at home.

The presenter is Ivette Robles,  FCPS Curriculum Resource Teacher, Office of School Improvement and Supports.

Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 10-11:30 a.m.
