News and Announcements December 9th Edition

Majors achieve and thrive together with purpose and pride!

Greetings Major Families,

I can hardly believe we are nearing the winter break.  Our students and staff have been working hard to finalize projects and assignments and we’ve seen lots of success.  This is a great opportunity for you to reflect with your children on their success and how they can build on those successes to stay the course.

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Principal Chat about safety and communication.  We were joined by our School Board members, Karen Corbett Sanders and Tammy Derenak Kaufax, our Region leaders Dr. Grace Taylor and Mrs. Leona  Smith, Tom Vacarello, our Director of Safety and Security, and our partners in the Fairfax County Police Department.  We had a rich discussion and heard several ideas that will continue to strengthen communication and collaboration with our community.  If you were not able to attend, you can review the slides that were presented here.

To close this year before the winter break, we have quite a few fun events planned to support the social emotional needs of our students.  We will celebrate with Wellness Day on Wednesday where students will have many choices to engage in collaborative activities.  We are also fortunate to have been chosen to host a presentation for students by SaulPaul on Friday, December 16, during Major Time.  SaulPaul is a GRAMMY Nominated Musician with a Message.  He has presented three (3)TEDx Talks, performed at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and been featured on America’s Got Talent.  His life story of transitioning from tragedy to triumph has been told on screen via the documentary Tower to Tower as well as via his memoir, "Be The Change".  Most recently, SaulPaul founded Change Water, a socially conscious bottled water company that donates to the local community with each case of water sold. Whether via art, entrepreneurship or community service, SaulPaul is committed to #BeTheChange.  Aware that some students are noise sensitive, we do have a quiet room.  Please contact your student’s counselor if  your student requires that accommodation.

Finally, we are excited about the opportunity for students, families and staff to take a well-deserved break to reset and unwind.  I hope you have opportunities to enjoy the crisp weather with your family and reflect on the wonderful things that have happened this year.

With Love,

Principal Rogers
