Kindergarten students learned about fire safety through a puppet show!

Note from Dr. Sheers

Read-in Day is approaching and we would love to see you! Pick a book from your child's collection, visit the local library, or stop by our library to borrow a book to read to your child's classroom on Friday, December 16.

Look out for your teacher's classroom newsletter with information on how to sign up to be a guest reader on Read-in Day!

News and Notes

The “Sickness Season” is in full swing.
The Health Department tracks student absences to detect potential outbreaks of flu, Covid, stomach bugs, etc. It would be extremely helpful to include details about your child's sickness such as (fever, headache, sore throat, etc.) as well as keeping your child home if they have any of the above symptoms. Thank you for your continuous support, and for your endless effort to keep everyone safe during this season.

Holiday Gift Card Donations Needed
There are a small number of WSES families who would benefit from support this holiday season. If you would like to help brighten the holidays for families in our community, we are requesting gift cards to Walmart, Target, TJMaxx/Marshalls, Giant, and Fresh World in any amount (please indicate value of the card). Gift cards can be dropped off at the WSES front office or at the home of Amy Suber, PTA Community of Caring Chair (alborck@gmail.com). Please turn gift cards in by Wednesday, December 14. Any support you are able to provide is greatly appreciated!

Parent Advocacy Handbook
FCPS has published a newly revised Parent Advocacy Handbook for parents and guardians. The handbook contains answers to many questions parents have about the school system and how they can best advocate for their student during various stages of their school experience. The handbook is available in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, Korean, and Spanish. A limited number of hard copies of the handbook (in English and Spanish) are available in the information rack in the WSES front lobby or you can request a copy by emailing Karen Lathrop (Family Liaison) at kllathrop@fcps.edu.
