Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

Our building was buzzing with learning this week!  It is hard to believe that it is just two more weeks until winter break.

In the past two weeks Dr. Mitchell and I had the opportunity to chat with several student representatives in grades 3-6 as part of FCPS’ Strategic Plan work.  It was a wonderful opportunity to hear student voices share what is going well at Stenwood and in FCPS and what we can do to make it even better.  Many students shared how wonderful our teachers are and what a great community we are in, and we couldn’t agree more!

We know that tis the season for viruses.  Please remember to keep your child home if they are not feeling well.  If your child stays home, please let the office through this attendance email:  StenwoodElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or submitting it online, https://stenwoodes.fcps.edu/attendance-form.  Please always include symptoms so that our office staff do not need to follow up.

Here are some additional items included in today’s newsletter:

  • Grades 4-6 FLE Dates and Resources Reminder - NEW
  • Parent Advocacy Handbook - NEW
  • AAP Level IV Referrals - Due 12/15 - Reminder

FCPS has published a newly revised Parent Advocacy Handbook for parents and guardians. The handbook is available in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, Korean, and Spanish. A limited number of hard copies of the handbook (in English and Spanish) are available in the front office or you can request a copy by emailing Karina Ocampo (Family Liaison) at kvocampo@fcps.edu.

Positivity Project:

Supporting Others When They Struggle

PP Picture Logo

This week, we are working on ONE of the FIVE overarching components of the Positivity Project. Supporting others when they struggle is an important test of our character every single day.

“We rise by lifting others.”

                    ~Robert Ingersoll

When you put others first, you look to comfort people in the small, day-to-day disappointments, whether they are friends, classmates, acquaintances, family, and even rivals.

Think of a time you went through something difficult and someone encouraged you. How can you pass on that act of kindness this week?
