Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) Creative and Critical Thinker

PoG Critical and Creative Thinker

As a part of the current FCPS Strategic Plan, students in K-12 work on Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) skills along with their grade level curriculum.

One of the PoG attributes is Creative and Critical Thinker, which encompasses the following:

  • Engages in problem solving, inquiry, and design of innovative solutions to overcome obstacles to improve outcomes.
  • Uses information in novel and creative ways to strengthen comprehension and deepen awareness.
  • Demonstrates divergent and ingenious thought to enhance the design-build process.
  • Expresses thought, ideas, and emotions meaningfully through the arts.
  • Evaluates ideas and information sources for validity, relevance, and impact.
  • Reasons through and weighs evidence to reach conclusions.

One of the ways we focus on this attribute in the STEAM lab. WFES is proud to offer STEAM instruction K-6 each week with our two amazing teachers Mrs. Brown and Mr. Gray.

Next week is Computer Science Education Week, December 6 -11. Students in our STEAM lab will be exploring the many loops, conditions and functions of coding by participating in Hour of Code. Each grade will have an opportunity to delve into an online coding activity specifically made for their grade level. Many of these activities can be found in Schoology under the STEAM course, so that students can continue their learning over the holiday break if they choose.

Check the Lost and Found at Door 1

There are some really nice jackets, coats and other clothing in our lost and found. If you think your child is missing an item of clothing, a water bottle or anything else, it is now located just inside Door #1 near the main office so parents/guardians can stop in and look for items easily. Lost jewelry is kept in the front office, so please ask if something of value has been lost.
