Mustang Memo 12.1.22

goal

Third grade student dialogue about the Portrait of Graduate Skill: Goal Directed and Resiliency.

Note from Dr. Sheers

This week alone, I have received three complaints from our neighbors about the driving behavior of our community.  Please be mindful of following the below safety measures to ensure our students and staff are safe when coming to and going home from school. Be advised we have told neighbors to call the non emergency police number to report unsafe driving behaviors or blocked driveways.

  • When dropping off children or parking around our school community, do not park within 10 feet of a residential driveway, within 30 feet of a stop sign, or within 20 feet of the intersection or crosswalk (all are Fairfax County parking restrictions).
  • Please be mindful of not blocking a residential driveway or mailbox - this happens often!
  • The driveway in front of the school building is reserved for buses and emergency vehicles during student arrival and dismissal.
  • For safety reasons, cars may not enter the school parking lot during student arrival and dismissal.
  • Drivers should not make U-Turns in the middle of the streets.
  • It is unlawful to pass a school bus, even in the parking lot or driveway, if its lights are blinking, or if it is loading or unloading children.

We show our neighbors the love and respect they deserve and observe these safety expectations, thank you!

News and Notes

Holiday Gift Card Donations Needed
There are a small number of WSES families who would benefit from support this holiday season. If you would like to help brighten the holidays for families in our community, we are requesting gift cards to Walmart, Target, TJMaxx/Marshalls, Giant, and Fresh World in any amount (please indicate value of the card). Gift cards can be dropped off at the WSES front office or at the home of Amy Suber, PTA Community of Caring Chair (alborck@gmail.com). Please turn gift cards in by Wednesday, December 14. Any support you are able to provide is greatly appreciated!

Parent Advocacy Handbook
FCPS has published a newly revised Parent Advocacy Handbook for parents and guardians. The handbook contains answers to many questions parents have about the school system and how they can best advocate for their student during various stages of their school experience. The handbook is available in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, Korean, and Spanish. A limited number of hard copies of the handbook (in English and Spanish) are available in the information rack in the WSES front lobby or you can request a copy by emailing Karen Lathrop (Family Liaison) at kllathrop@fcps.edu.
