Dear Poplar Tree Families,

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made

FCPS’ inclement weather procedures will remain the same as last year. The first five inclement weather days will be traditional “snow days” with no school activities. After those five days, we will use the flexibility provided by the Virginia General Assembly to have unscheduled virtual learning days, whenever possible, to maintain the continuity of learning. Virtual learning on these days will be synchronous/live instruction, following the inclement weather virtual learning day schedule (includes a two-hour delay). All Elementary Schools would start instruction at 10:30 and end the school day at 3:15. This virtual day also includes a lunch and recess break.

FCPS’ website is generally the first mode of communication during emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated

Be sure to plan ahead for the winter season. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in weCare@school  and bookmark the FCPS website.

Have a wonderful weekend!

👣 Indoor Sensory Walks 🔄

We ordered two indoor sensory walks for Poplar Tree! One for the first floor and one for the second floor. The installation process requires many hands and we are hoping you can help!

🗣️ Talk About It Tuesday! 🗣️

This year, at Poplar Tree, we are focusing on helping our students be good Communicators and Collaborators! Each Tuesday, we are sharing a video of students practicing Communicating on our Good Morning Poplar Tree news show!

Check out the video below where some of our multi-age students share what they are thankful for!

Little Free Library

We are so happy to see how much love and use the Little Free Library is receiving! We’ve noticed it is getting low on books. As a reminder, please feel free to add any unwanted books you might have around your house. We hope to continue to be able to keep it stocked for the community to enjoy! Thank you for your support of the Little Free Library and the SCA of Poplar Tree!

📖 Poplar Tree Read-a-Thon! 🔖

11/15 - 12/16: Read-a-Thon Sponsors

Encourage students to get Read-a-thon sponsors from friends and family from 11/15 – 12/16. Donations are not pledges per book read, but a flat donation for participating and for celebrating their love of reading. Donations are all done online – https://app.memberhub.gives/ptesreadathon  – search for your child’s name to access & share their fundraising page!

**Having trouble with the Read-a-thon site?! Check out THIS VIDEO to learn how to donate and give credit to your child!!**

Our goal is to exceed last year’s PTES Read-a-thon and raise $7,000!

All proceeds will go to supporting Poplar Tree school grants that benefit ALL students!

12/1 - 12/16: Read-a-Thon!!

Students will participate in reading sessions at school and can also log reading sessions at home. Congratulations to our Bookmark contest winners - first place was Abigail Zhang from Ms. Loudin's class and second place was Winston Hu from Mr. Schroll's class. Each student will receive a bookmark with their designs before winter break!

Read-a-Thon Spirit Days

    • Dress head to toe in your favorite color or colors representing how you're feeling
  • Friday, 12/16 - "Read-in" Day
