Mustang Message - December 4, 2022

We are a community of learners thriving in a diverse world!

We are a family.

We are capable.

We are caring.

We all belong!

Small Group programs

Outside of school small group programs allow students and teachers to connect in unique ways.

BMP Coffee and Conversation

Our next BMP Coffee and Conversation topic is “Helping your Child Respond to Interpersonal Conflict and Prevent Bullying”  on Friday, December 9th at 9:30 a.m. in the library. In this session, our BMP School Counselors will explain what is bullying, how to prevent and respond to potential bullying. We will learn ways to support your child when they have a conflict at home or at school.

We will also provide a Zoom link just prior for those who are unable to join us in person.

Family Life Education

Family Life Education (FLE) includes Human Growth & Development lessons for students in grades 4 and 5.  Families may review lesson topics and complete opt out forms.  All students will participate unless an opt out form is received by school staff.

Parents/guardians can review the complete family life curricula. Instructional materials may be viewed in Parent View in Schoology.

BMP Day of Service

Specialist Spotlight

This month we have been focusing on the critical and creative skill Plus, Minus, Interesting.  Plus, Minus, Interesting is a critical thinking strategy that encourages students to develop the habit of looking beyond the polarity of “yes or no,” “wrong or right,” or “my answer or your answer” to a more nuanced consideration.  The goal of PMI is to develop independent thinkers who consider a range of ideas and/or possibilities and see beyond the obvious.  The “interesting” category can also include questions.  At home you could think about something you are passionate about and consider all of the different sides of the idea

Portrait of a Graduate

Portrait of a Graduate (POG) acknowledges that in our changing world, education needs to fulfill our mission of supporting student success in school and in life. POG prioritizes skills that empower students to be productive citizens of a global community and successful in the future workforce.

One POG attribute is collaborator.  Students who are strong in this attribute:

  • Respect different thinking and engage others in thoughtful discussion.
  • Work interdependently to promote learning, increase productivity, and achieve common goals.
  • Analyze and construct arguments, examining different viewpoints.
  • Seek and use feedback to adapt ideas; persist in accomplishing difficult tasks.

To support your child as a collaborator, you can ask:

  • How were you a collaborator today?
  • How did you help your team finish the [activity, project, assignment]?
  • Were there moments when your team struggled? How did you handle that?
  • Did you have a chance to see things from a different side? What did you learn when you did that?
