Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

This week we spent time with our favorite hive phrase, Bee Kind.  Hopefully your child brought home their Bee Kind Bingo board.  This is a great activity that your family can do together and talk about all the random acts of kindness you can do to help spread joy in our community.

This week was also filled with celebration and adventure.  At Monday night’s School Board Meeting, Mrs. Fucile and I joined one of our military connected students to receive recognition of the Purple Star Award.  The Commander’s words that our military families often leave their community a little better than when they arrived rings so true for our Stenwood community.  We are so thankful for all of our military connected families and their impact for the year, or years, that they are at Stenwood.

Our 2nd, 4th, and 5th graders all enjoyed adventures this week on their field trips!  We are so fortunate to live in an area where we can so easily connect our learning to real world experiences outside of our school walls.

A few Kiss N’ Ride reminders as we have received an uptick in parent complaints. 8:20 is the earliest drop off time in the morning.  Prior to that, we do not have patrols or adult supervision.  For both arrival and dismissal, please also remember to stay in your cars and please do not pass cars in the loop unless there is a staff member directing you to do so.  If parking in the neighborhood before or after school, please remember that Carneigie is a permitted parking area and please make sure to park legally (not blocking driveways, crosswalks, and being a legal distance from intersections - 20ft).  Thank you for helping to provide accessibility to our Kiss N Ride loop for all and being respectful of our neighbors.  Finally, please remember that if you have concerns with another driver to be respectful.  There are students always in earshot and we need to model respectful behavior.

As the weather gets colder, please make sure your child has a jacket to be ready for outdoor recess and PE.  Also, a jacket will be required to participate in outdoor lunch. Next week is a short week.  If you know that your child will not be here on Monday or Tuesday, please let the office through this attendance email:  StenwoodElem.Attendance@fcps.edu.

Here are some additional items included in today’s newsletter:

  • Assessment Reporting Information - Reminder
  • AAP Level IV Referrals - Due 12/15 - Reminder
  • FCPS Strategic Plan Participation - NEW

Assessment Reporting Information

We hope you have enjoyed learning about your child’s progress during conference times.  Your child’s teacher shared a variety of assessment information that will also be available to you for your personal records:

  • iReady grades 1-3 will be sent via U.S. Mail before Thanksgiving

FCPS Strategic Plan Participation

Opportunities to Participate in the Strategic Planning Process
FCPS is offering a number of opportunities for parents/caregivers to be involved in the Strategic Planning process! Check out two immediate options below:

Nominate Yourself or Someone Else for the Family Team

We are currently seeking nominations for parents/caregivers who are interested in contributing to Strategic Plan development as part of the Family Team. This team will represent the rich diversity of families that make up FCPS’ community, and will focus on identifying engagement and outreach practices that will improve our partnerships with families.

If you are interested in being part of the Family Team or would like to nominate someone else, please fill out this form by Tuesday, November 22nd

Be a Key Communicator!

If you are a member of a community organization or group, consider signing up to be a key communicator during the strategic planning process. FCPS key communicators are active members of the community who people turn to for information, and have an interest in sharing information about the school division and encouraging involvement. If this describes you or someone you know, please get the details and complete this form by Monday, November 28th.

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What are the easiest things to be grateful for? What are the most difficult?
