Weekly Principal's Message - November 13, 2022

For the first time in a couple of weeks, we will have a full week of school for students. The week will start with  an alternate bell schedule to accommodate for some building wide survey needs.

Students should have come home last week with report cards in hand to show you their success from the first quarter but if that report card is not exactly a symbol of their capabilities, please encourage your student to use flex back periods or Tuesday after school support to gain additional remediation. We  honored and celebrated our 7th and 8th grade students who earned all As during our first quarter Honor Roll ceremony. A special thank you to Westfield High School students, Pat Bartro and Anthony Moore who share their personal journey and encouraging words with our Stone Panthers. Students really enjoyed the special doughnut treat at the end of the ceremony! Special thanks to the Student Services department for organizing this wonderful celebration of academic accomplishments.

In honor of Veteran’s day, we would like to acknowledge our community of Veterans and families of Veterans, THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice. At Stone, we are extremely proud of our Veterans Mr. Kevin Eley, Technology Specialist, (Army), Mr. Armando Garcia, Counselor, (Navy) and Officer Virgil Swartz, School Resource Officer (Army).

Quick reminder….It seems this week the weather will be changing to more seasonal cooler temperatures. Please remind your students to dress appropriately especially for the bus stop.

Let’s have a great week Panthers,

Sonya Williams

Principal

“Hidden in Plain Sight” Program

hidden in plain sights teen bedroom

Parents please consider attending this very informative, interactive event.

Join us Wednesday, November 16th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Sully District Station (4900 Stonecroft Blvd, Chantilly).

Register here: https://bit.ly/hipsnov22. Seats are limited.

This is a hands-on learning adventure for PARENTS AND GUARDIANS ONLY! We guide you through a presentation that opens your eyes to what is right in front of you. This program begins with a setup of a teenager’s bedroom which includes close to 100 “red flags” that indicate risky behavior. Parents are encouraged to touch everything and identify our red flags. Times have changed since we were teenagers… do you think you can find them?

The hands-on portion is followed by an educational section that includes a presentation detailing the red flag props that the room contained and how it is indicative of — or used in — risky behavior. We include up to date statistics and local trends, and law enforcement officers will share their experiences they have had in our community identifying risky behavior and helping to put kids on the right path to a healthy life. Let’s open the door to communicating with our teens!

Cornerstones, in partnership with the Hunter Mill District Supervisor’s Office, is once again operating the Hunter Mill District Winter Coat Closet for 2022 – 2023 in order to provide free winter coats, hats, gloves, mittens and scarves to all who need them.

All distribution events will be outdoors, and all participants will be encouraged to wear masks to ensure everyone’s safety.  If the date of a distribution event should have inclement weather, the distribution will be moved indoors, and masks will be required.
