Principals' Message

Dear Freedom Hill Community,

Thank you to our veteran and active service family members who came in to visit our students in their classrooms yesterday. We are grateful and honored to recognize these individuals and thank them for their service as we reflect on the importance of Veterans Day.

This week is National School Psychologists Week. Thank you to our amazing school psychologist, Elyssa Bonner, for all she does to support our students and families.

This Friday, we are excited to bring back our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. Unfortunately, due to supply constraints, we will not be able to offer meals to parents/family members. Family are welcome to bring their own lunch to the cafeteria and eat with their child. Please check your son/daughter's lunch time here. When you enter the building, you will be invited to complete a "gratitude ring" that will be added to a large school display next week. We look forward to seeing you!

In partnership,

Nicholas Zapadka, Principal

Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

Holiday Generosity

hh

We invite you to join our school community in supporting our families during this holiday season through the following:

  1. Donate a reusable shopping bag(s) to the front office to help us send home food and materials to families
  2. Drop off a gift card to a local grocery store (Trader Joe's preferred) at our front office. We will include these with gifts for families in need
  3. Contribute to the Girl Scout Cold Weather Drive. A box for collecting adult and children’s items will be placed at the school from 12/1-12/16.  Any new and gentle used coats, hats, gloves and scarves are appreciated.

Arrival/Dismissal Safety Reminders

A reminder to our community that our school doors open at 9:05, and we do not have outdoor staff supervision before that time. Please do not drop off students before 9:05 at our front door.

At the end of the day, parents picking up students should enter the Kiss N Ride line, or pick them up personally at the SACC doors. The front office doors are used exclusively for bus riding students.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe!

Positivity Project: Gratitude

This week, we are focusing on Gratitude. You are aware of and thankful for good things that happen.

“The real gift of gratitude is that the more grateful you are, the more present you become.”

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What are the easiest things to be grateful for? What are the most difficult?
  • What are some benefits of gratitude?
  • How does it make you feel to think that others are grateful for you?

We will be celebrating Native American Heritage Month the rest of November. We would love to have parents of Native American descent to come and speak on our News Show in the morning, if possible. It would be for about 10 minutes. Our goal is to build awareness around the school community about Native American History and Indigenous Peoples of the Americas. We would love to get our parents and community involved.

Dates: Nov 17,18, 21 or 22

If you are interested, would you, please email Mrs. Nash for more information and to sign up.  jthreatt@fcps.edu

PTA Updates

Thanks to everyone who came to our PTA meeting. We have a great turn out. Hope to see you at the Book Fair and at the Thanksgiving Luncheon this week!

BOOK FAIR THIS WEEK!
Join your child for some book fair fun! Visit the library from 4:15-6:30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday nights this week or during the Thanksgiving Luncheon on Friday. You can set up your child with eWallet too and empower them to make their own book fair purchase decisions! That empowerment can start a love of reading. Plus 25-50% of sales go to the FHES Library! All the details are in the flier here. If you can help out Ms. Trott in the library in the mornings, she'd appreciate it. Sign up genius here.

PTA MEETING RECAP
We had some great insights on the book fair from Ms. Trott (especially with a demo of eWallet), the iPad initiative from Ms. Kelly (our Elementary School-Based Technology Specialist), and some good insights on the recess equipment process and how to volunteer in-school from Dr. Z and Ms. Bliss. Take a quick listen, and check out the meeting minutes or slides here. Recording is here and password is: 0*US2z*5
