Community Calendar Input

In an annual planning process, Fairfax County Public Schools uses input from the community to develop the calendar for the following year. Our framework for creating the calendar is available online to ensure transparency, as we work to build a calendar that is inclusive and equitable. Watch your email for a feedback form, which will be shared with parents, staff, and middle and high school students. 

Staying Healthy This Cold/Flu Season Although the community level of COVID-19 in Fairfax County is currently low, cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses are on the rise. It continues to be important to wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, monitor your health daily, and stay home if you are sick. For more tips, visit our Return to School website.

Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist (SAPS) Introduction

Each school pyramid has a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist (SAPS) assigned to provide substance abuse prevention, education, and intervention services. Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists are part of the FCPS Office of Student Safety and Wellness.

Key roles of a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist:

• Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug education for students, parents, and the Fairfax County Community
• Intervention services upon violation of the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook or suspected substance use involvement
• Assessing a student’s level of substance use and, if appropriate, making referrals to the Fairfax Community Service Board for additional services or other community resources as appropriate
• Group and individual prevention services for students, staff, parents, and the Fairfax County community
• Most importantly, building positive relationships with students to provide support and encouragement

Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist

Immunization Notice School immunization is an important component to the health of our schools. If your child needs to update Immunizations you will be contacted by the school. Community resources, including Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD), low cost healthcare resources in Northern Virginia, and other community healthcare resources, are available to support families in getting timely appointments with medical providers to receive school entry immunizations.

SMILE! Picture Day November 18th Fall picture day is Friday, November 18th. Order forms from Lifetouch were sent home in your student's Thursday folder. Please check your child's backpack. Purchasing a picture package is optional.

FCPS Strategic Plan Opportunity for Students to Help Inform FCPS’ Future You may have heard FCPS is developing a Strategic Plan that will serve as the school division’s roadmap for the future. We encourage every parent/caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work.  The first engagement opportunity will be an optional survey, which will be open to students in grades 3-12. Knowing what is important to students will be very helpful to Dr. Reid, as she leads the planning of FCPS’ future. DWES will be administering the student survey between November 7-18.

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Dogwood.
