Hello Justice HS Students, Families, and Community Members,

This week our campus, along with Glasgow MS, underwent our 5 year evaluation process for our International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP) programs. I’d like to publicly thank our staff, students, parents, and district personnel who made this process a successful one!  Below are a few highlights from the visit:

Strengths:

  • Staff passion for creating an inclusive environment with a coherent curriculum
    • Evidence of student choice and opportunities for reflection
  • Stability and commitment to breaking down barriers for student learning
  • Student primary feedback:  they like their teachers and the diversity of the schools

Areas of Growth:

  • Continue work involving horizontal and vertical articulation within and between the schools
  • Increase explicit communication with all stakeholders about the opportunities within an IB school/pyramid

We are committed to continuing the expansion and evolution of IB Programs in the Justice Pyramid!

I’m excited to announce Justice has been chosen as a NABSE Demonstration School!  Our campus presentation will take place on Friday, December 2nd at NABSE 50th Annual Conference.  See the excerpt from Dr. Reid’s weekly reflection below:

I’m also proud to announce, an Educate Fairfax Grant was awarded to teacher, Morgan Benfield.  Her proposal for Capable Candle Co. was selected for funding at $1,000.00!  Congratulations Ms. Benfield on receiving this award!

With our unseasonably warm, but beautiful weather that is forecasted for the weekend, I hope you’re able to get out and enjoy it to the fullest.

Safety & Wellness Information Session

We as a school would like to share both what we are doing to support a healthy environment as well as resources available for those who are concerned about a friend or loved one. On Wednesday, November 9th at 6:00 PM, we will host an in-person Safety & Wellness Information Session.  This session will be facilitated by our very own Colleen Lally, in collaboration with the FCPS Student Safety & Wellness Office as an informal session for parents and answer any questions they may have around these issues.

Drug use- whether illegal or illicit- is a serious concern.  If you are the parent of a child and you have concerns, please reach out to your child’s administrator if you would like to set up a confidential meeting for your child and the Substance Abuse Prevention specialist. Fairfax County also has a number of additional resources available.  Please see this list for more resources.

Together we can help to keep our students safe.

Student Parking Notice

Effective next week our Safety & Security team will be monitoring parking lots for vehicles parked in the parking lot without a permit.  Tickets will be issued for anyone in violation. Parking permits must be visible and facing out away from the vehicle for security to visibly see the permit number.

UPDATE: There are currently 5 more parking spaces available for Juniors or Seniors wishing to purchase a parking permit. Please see Mr. Wall, Safety and Security Specialist, for an application and details concerning costs. There will be no additional parking permits issued for the rest of the school year after these five spots are issued.
