LAES Weekly Wave: November 4

Principal's Message

Dear Lake Anne Family,

It's been another great week of learning here at Lake Anne! Not only have we been focusing on academic learning, but we have also been focusing on Social Emotional learning in a variety of ways. One way that we support students is through our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Lab. The lab provides a space for students to learn important skills that will help them cope, advocate for themselves, and work with others. Starting this week we will feature the skill students are working on in SEL Lab. This feature will include the skill(s), why it's important, and conversation starters for families!

First quarter progress reports will be sent home next Thursday for students in grades 1-6. These can also be accessed in Parent Vue on Thursday.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone for our Veteran's Day celebration on Monday Morning at 8:50! Veterans Day provides a great reason to pause, reflect, and recognize the extraordinary sacrifices our Veterans and their families have made on our behalf, and we thank them for their service.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Stewart                           Dr. Rogers

Principal                                  Assistant Principal

Staying Healthy in Cold & Flu Season

d

Although the community level of COVID-19 in Fairfax County is currently low, cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses are on the rise.

It continues to be important to wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, monitor your health daily, and stay home if you are sick. For more tips, visit our Return to School website.

Sub and Save the Day! Bonus Opportunities!

FCPS is always looking for kind and caring substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers and instructional assistants need to be out of the classroom. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for future teachers, stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, part-time employees, and anyone who wants to make a difference.
FCPS has started offering bonuses for substitutes who are available to teach on high volume days. Additionally, substitutes who work more, will earn extra bonuses when they reach 50, 100, or 150 days worked in a school year.
Substitute Teacher and Substitute Instructional Assistant information sessions are held virtually on Wednesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. Candidates will receive an email link to the virtual information session the Monday before the session. Sign up for an information session.

Tardies

We have noticed an increase in the number of tardy students. As a reminder, instruction begins promptly at 8:50 AM. Students may start entering the building as early as 8:30 AM so that they have plenty of time to get breakfast and get settled in class. The morning news and announcements are on in every classroom at 8:50 AM to begin the day.

Thank you for doing your part to ensure students are in their classrooms by 8:50 AM.

Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child’s name directly to your home. The first book is always the children’s classic The Little Engine That Could. Federal Impact Aid

Beginning on October 18, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.
