Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We absolutely loved learning about so many traditions and experiences from our families at our first “This is Us” night last night.  Thank you to our PTA and all the families who volunteered to share with us!

Our 4th graders and 5th graders really enjoyed sharing their learning with their families today.  Our 4th graders have been working very hard in their groups to create their National Museum of the American Indian.  Our 5th graders did a wonderful job sharing their culture artifacts in their museum.

Last week we were notified that we are being recognized as a Purple Star School!  The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families. Thanks to Mrs. Fucile who helped coordinate Stenwood’s programs.

First quarter progress reports will be coming home on Wednesday for 1st -6th graders.  Please make sure to check your child’s backpack.

Finally, as a reminder, we do not have school on Tuesday, 11/8 for election day and Friday 11/11 for Veteran’s Day.

Here are some additional items included in today’s newsletter:

  • Book Fair Coming Soon! - NEW

The Fall Book Fair is Coming!

This fundraiser for the library will be November 14th -18th.  Students will be able to browse the book fair, make wish lists, and then purchase books for themselves and/or their teachers.

Book Fair

But before all this can happen - we need volunteers to help out!  Please consider signing up for a slot or two. The book fair is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents, get a sneak peek at the books, and just have an all-around good time.  As always, please contact Mrs. Cole with any questions you might have.

Dunn Loring Repurposing Project

Community Meeting

Join us on November 10th, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. for a hybrid community meeting to learn more about the Dunn Loring repurposing project and share your views on the project and design process to date. This voter-funded renovation project will provide approximately 900 students with an elementary school rooted in history and poised to provide 21st-century learning, preparing young children for bright futures. Your voice matters and we would like to hear from you.

You may attend the event in person at the Gatehouse Administrative Center (8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls Church) or virtually via Zoom. Language interpretation will be provided based on the availability of interpretation staff.

Please be aware, the November 10th meeting will focus on the proposed design and future construction. Boundary discussions will begin at the start of construction, which may be as early as spring 2024. We will share future engagement opportunities with the community as they are scheduled.

Positivity Project: Bravery

PP Picture Logo

This week, we are focusing on Bravery. You act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary.

“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”

                    ~Mary Anne Radmacher

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • What are some situations that may call for bravery?
  • What are the differences between moral, mental, and physical bravery?
  • Why is it sometimes difficult to be brave?
