Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed another lovely fall weekend.

The Runathon Kick-Off took place last Friday.  Students and staff enjoyed watching the video which highlighted our Roadrunner spreading kindness throughout Vienna.  We hope you will watch the video with your children and join in the excitement!  We encourage families to participate in the Runathon by training together, raising money together or simply cheering each other on.  Runathon packets were sent home with students.  Please remind your children to turn in their envelopes whether they raise money or not to be included in a raffle.  Students will be running by grade and the schedule is below.  We hope you can join us on November 10 for the big event!

  • Grades 2, 3 - 10:00 am - 11:00 am
  • Grades 4, 5, 6 - 11:15 am - 12:15 pm
  • Grades K, 1 - 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm

There will be no school on Tuesday, November 8 and Friday, November 11.

Have a great week!

Peace.

PTA Update

Support Marshall Road Students and Staff by Supporting the 12th Annual Runathon

The 12th Annual Runathon is coming up on Thursday, November 10.  Students, teachers, and parents/caregivers will be running laps during the school day to earn money for our school!  This is our ONE main fundraiser of the year and money raised supports the PTA’s programs throughout the year, including community events (Family Picnics, Ice Cream Social, and International Night), field trips, author visits, classroom grants, teacher appreciation, and more!  100% of donations go directly to our school!  Please visit our Runathon website to create a personal fundraising page for your student, make a donation, view the class leaderboards and learn more about prizes!

We hope you can come out and join us on November 10.  You can sign up here to volunteer.  All volunteers will receive a free Runathon t-shirt!  You are welcome to come run with your student or simply cheer them on as they complete their laps.  It’s a fun day for the whole school community.

Reduce Waste by Recycling Halloween Candy Wrappers

Each year in the United States, more than 600 million pounds of candy are purchased for Halloween.  The vast majority of candy wrappers end up in landfills because they cannot be recycled by most curbside recycling programs.  This year Marshall Road is participating in the Trick or Trash program to collect candy wrappers (and only candy wrappers please!) for recycling.  Simply bring your candy wrappers to school and place them in the Trick or Trash box in the lobby November 1-18.  The plastic from the candy wrappers is used to create doggy bags for local animal shelters.  To learn more about how wrappers will be recycled, watch this video.

Join us for Walking Wednesday

The next Walking Wednesday is this tomorrow.  The goal of this event is to encourage walking and rolling to school, promote fitness and exercise, and reduce traffic congestion at drop-off and pickup time.  This is also a wonderful time to connect as a community.  As always, we need your help to make these events a success.  Please consider signing up to help greet walkers on Walking Wednesday.

Double Dining 4 Dollars at Mod Pizza and Ben & Jerry’s

Eat well while supporting Marshall Road and local businesses by purchasing dinner and dessert on Tuesday, November 15!  Dining 4 Dollars will take place all day at Mod Pizza and from 4:00-8:00 pm at  Ben & Jerry’s.

Save the Date for the PTA General Membership Meeting

At the meeting, the school will give an overview of the special education program at MRES.  We will also discuss plans for spring events, including our Family Night during Read Across America Week, Earth Week events, the MRES Science Fair, International Night, and Spring Family Night.  If you would like to share your ideas and input for these events, please join us!
