2nd annual Veterans Day Event

Friday, November 11th 1-3 pm

Veteran's Day Event 11/11
  • This is not a drop off event. Students must be associated with an attending adult.
    • Parent volunteers are needed to assist with check in, setup, and cleanup. Please sign up.
  • Schedule for the day:
    • All branches will be honored 
    • The Air Force band will play music from 1:00-1:30.
    • We will be writing cards to veterans and donating them to Operation Gratitude which specializes in delivering cards and letters to current serving soldiers as well as other veterans.       

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found bins, located in the cafeteria, are overflowing. Please encourage your student to check for lost jackets, hoodies, lunch boxes, water bottles, and even tennis shoes.  Parents are welcome to search for missing items as well.  All unclaimed items will be donated on Friday, November 3.  


Nominations are now open for the Outstanding Employee Awards!

To submit a nomination for a Cooper Middle School Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please complete the nomination through this Google form link: https://forms.gle/c3PNyuEBrpQAjgAP9. You may nominate an employee in one or more categories. All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. The google form link has more information regarding the criteria for each of these awards and the eligibility requirements are below.

Outstanding Teacher 

Eligibility: Have completed at least three full years of teaching

Outstanding New Teacher

Eligibility: Be within the first three years of their teaching career

Outstanding Principal

Eligibility: Currently work as an elementary, middle, secondary or high school principal in FCPS                                               

Outstanding Leader 

Eligibility: Currently work as a full-time or part-time Schedule C or School-Based administrator who has completed at least one contracted year of employment with FCPS in this position.

Common positions in this category: Associate Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Student Services, Director of Student Activities

Outstanding Professional Employee 

Eligibility: Have completed at least one year of contracted full-time or part-time professional employment in FCPS in their current position

Currently work as a Schedule-B employee in an FCPS school or center, or in a non-instructional position that supports school leadership.

Common positions in this category: School-Based Technology Specialist, Technology Support Specialist, Assessment Coach, Career Center Specialist, Instructional Coach, Psychologist, Social Worker, Speech Pathologist, School Counselor, Systems of Support Administrator, Safety and Security Specialist other employee paid as a Resource Teacher who serves in a non-instructional or administrative role in the school

Outstanding Operational Employee

Eligibility: Have completed at least one year of contracted full-time or part-time operational employment in FCPS.  Currently work on the Schedule-A, Schedule-H, or Classroom Instructional Support (CIS) Scale in an FCPS school.

Common positions in this category: Common positions in this category: administrative and office assistants, custodial staff, food service staff, IA, PHA, PHTA, all parent liaisons

Federal Impact Aid Forms-

Due November 4

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey.  If Sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All responses are confidential. 

All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4.


Langley Open House

Sunday, November 6th, 2-4pm

Eighth-grade students and their families are invited to attend the information session presented by administrators, tour the building with student ambassadors, and chat with experienced parents and faculty. Interested families should RSVP to Assistant Principal Jim Robertson by November 1, 2022.

Who: 8th-grade students and their families in the Langley & McLean Pyramids

What: Langley High School Open House

Where: Langley HS Auditorium, park in the main lot and enter through door #14

When: Sunday, November 6th, 2-4pm

Why: Attend to learn about the challenging and enriching academic environment that exists at Langley High School!


SOS Lesson and Screener

(7th Grade Only)

The SOS (Signs of Suicide) lesson and screener will be given to 7th grade students at Cooper on Monday, November 14th during Block 4. Families received a communication via eNotify on October 14th. Please read the email for details on SOS and the option to opt out.
