Message from Ms. Kearns

Dear Lake Braddock Families,

We hope you are having a wonderful start to the second quarter!  November is known as a month of gratitude as we head towards the Thanksgiving holidays. Lake Braddock is embarking on their own Gratitude Challenge, focusing on one prompt each day.  We hope you will join us and share with us what makes you appreciative in today's world.

"The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation."--Dalai Lama

We here at Lake Braddock most definitely are appreciative of our staff, students, and community who make this school a wonderful place to be.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Go Bruins!

Lindsey Kearns

Congrats to the LB Chamber Orchestra!

It is with great pleasure to announce that the LB Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Clayton Allen has been selected to perform during the 2022 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) National Conference. This is one of many exciting outside performances that are planned for this year!  Each year, NAfME has a Nationwide conference. The Association selects high-level elementary, middle, high school, and university groups to perform at this national event. The Lake Braddock Chamber Orchestra will be performing at The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD on November 4 at 4:00 pm on the Outside Main Stage. This is a great honor for the Lake Braddock Orchestra Program!  National Association for Music Education (NAfME), among the world’s largest arts education organizations, is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state, and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers. The Association has supported music educators at all teaching levels for more than a century. Again, Congratulations to the Lake Braddock Middle School Chamber Orchestra for your selection to this prestigious national music conference.

Safe Routes to School News

During November, days keep getting shorter, so drivers and people who walk or roll to school need to be more cautious near LBSS.  Now is a great time to use flashing reflectors on bikes and backpacks!

Another way to keep all Bruins safe as they commute to school is to reduce the traffic near our school.  We all have a part.  Traffic congestion causes bus delays that keep bus riders from riding the bus.  Congestion causes walkers to feel unsafe so they are more likely to drive to school.  Traffic congestion causes some car riders and carpoolers to drive, park and drop off students in an unsafe manner.  If we all do our part to find a better way, everyone can get to school faster!

The Safe Routes to School Committee is inviting volunteers to participate in our upcoming Walk About Audit, on Nov 17th from 2-4 pm.  Students, staff, parents and community members are all welcome.  Please contact LBSS.SRTS@gmail.com for more info.

Lake Braddock was awarded this Walk About Grant by the Virginia Department of Transportation, to help identify unsafe areas or intersections within a 1 -2 mile radius of our school.  About 15% of Lake Braddock students are assigned as walkers, because they live within 1.5 miles of LBSS.  This audit will specifically address barriers that are keeping our assigned walkers from walking or biking safely to school, since we want as many students as possible to enjoy all of the mental and physical health benefits of actively commuting to school.

Congrats to everyone who participated in LBSS Walk to School Day Oct 7th and International Walk to School Day Oct 12th!  Make your plan to walk on Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Wednesday November 16th!

FCPS Information

calendar

How FCPS Develops Its School Year Calendar

In an annual planning process, Fairfax County Public Schools uses input from the community to develop the calendar for the following year. Our framework for creating the calendar is available online to ensure transparency, as we work to build a calendar that is inclusive and equitable. Watch your email for a feedback form, which will be shared with parents, staff, and middle and high school students.

Staying Healthy this Cold/Flu Season

Although the community level of COVID-19 in Fairfax County is currently low, cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses are on the rise. It continues to be important to wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, monitor your health daily, and stay home if you are sick. For more tips, visit our Return to School website
