Belvedere News and Announcements - October 28, 2022

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

Thank you to all who attended Trunk-R-Treat last night. It was a perfect fall evening, and everyone had so much fun. We appreciate all staff who volunteered their time to make this exciting for our families. We are also grateful for you, parents, who donated candy and treats. The PTA also paid for a pizza dinner for staff who stayed late to participate. Thank you all.

We are excited to have all students in grades kindergarten through five participate in student involved/led conferences. Teachers have been meeting with parents throughout the month of October and will continue to do so until November 11. The students have spent time preparing and are eager to share with you, parents, their learning and growth. It means the world to them when you attend the conference.

Next Wednesday, November 2nd, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. there will be a virtual PTA meeting. Attending the meeting is a great way to get to know the PTA board and to hear about school and PTA updates. We hope you can attend!

Also, on November 4 at 3 p.m., there will be a parent coffee with the principal and the school’s reading teachers focused on literacy. We will be sharing about the enhanced approach to literacy adopted by FCPS. We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you!

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

FCPS will be asking ALL families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.

Belvedere sent home these forms last Friday, October 21st in your child’s Friday Folder.

Belvedere Outdoor Club

Join Outdoor Club trip on Saturday, November 5, at the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk. Outdoor Club meets on Saturday mornings several times per year to explore local parks with students and their families. Bus transportation is available from Belvedere and Barcroft View apartments. More information and permission slips were sent home in Friday folders (also available here). Space is limited and participation is first come, first served, as forms are received.

Outdoor Club trips are scheduled for 1/21, 3/18, 4/29, and 5/20. Please contact our Environmental Educator, Andrea Auerbach (asauerbach1@fcps.edu) with questions.

Superintendent Community Conversations

Please save the date for a very special event! Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, will host a Community Conversation at Justice High School on November 21st, 6:30-7:30 p.m. This event will be a unique opportunity to help Dr. Reid get to know our school community and learn more about her vision for our district.

Language interpretation will be provided, as available, as well as child care and light refreshments. Please register to attend.

Opportunity for Students to Help Inform FCPS’ Future

You may have heard FCPS is developing a Strategic Plan that will serve as the school division’s roadmap for the future. We encourage every parent/caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work.

The first engagement opportunity will be an optional survey, which will be open to students in grades 3-12. Knowing what is important to students will be very helpful to Dr. Reid, as she leads the planning of FCPS’ future. All schools, including ours, will schedule a date and time during the school day to administer the survey between November 2-18. If you would prefer that your child not participate, you may opt your child out of taking the survey. Please visit FCPS’ website for more information.
