October 24, 2022

Hello Justice HS Students, Families, and Community Members,

We’ve had a weekend full of homecoming activities, Justice pride, and winning! On Saturday our cheer team won the National District Cheer Championship for the second time, two years in a row! Our very own Debbie O’Rourke walked away crowned the National District Cheer Coach of the Year; and student, Dani Obregon, was awarded National District Cheerleader of the Year.  Tonight, our volleyball team will take on Falls Church HS for the 1st round of district volleyball.

I’d like to publicly thank Mr. Thompson, Mr. Noyes, Ms. Taylor, staff/parent volunteers and the entire SGA for the hard work put into making last week’s homecoming activities a successful and memorable event!

This Friday marks the end of the first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year and is a 2-hour early release day.  Monday, October 31st is a Teacher Workday, and there is no school for students.  1st Quarter report cards will be distributed to students on Monday, November 7th during Advisory.

Read below for additional amazing opportunities and important news for students and parents. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Safety & Wellness Information Session

We as a school would like to share both what we are doing to support a healthy environment as well as resources available for those who are concerned about a friend or loved one. On Wednesday, November 9th at 6:00 PM, we will host an in-person Safety & Wellness Information Session.  This session will be facilitated by our very own Colleen Lally, in collaboration with the FCPS Student Safety & Wellness Office as an informal session for parents and answer any questions they may have around these issues.

Drug use- whether illegal or illicit- is a serious concern.  If you are the parent of a child and you have concerns, please reach out to your child’s administrator if you would like to set up a confidential meeting for your child and the Substance Abuse Prevention specialist. Fairfax County also has a number of additional resources available.  Please see this list for more resources.

Together we can help to keep our students safe.

Opportunity for Students to Help Inform FCPS’ Future

You may have heard FCPS is developing a Strategic Plan that will serve as the school division’s roadmap for the future. We encourage every parent/caregiver, student, employee, and community member to participate in this important work.

The first engagement opportunity will be an optional survey, which will be open to students in grades 3-12. Knowing what is important to students will be very helpful to Dr. Reid, as she leads the planning of FCPS’ future. All schools, including ours, will schedule a date and time during the school day to administer the survey between November 2-18. If you would prefer that your child not participate, you may opt your child out of taking the survey. Please visit FCPS’ website for more information.
