Dear Members of the Chantilly HS Community:
Here's the news around Chantilly! Have a great weekend.

2. Student Absences
This is the time of the year that many students are feeling ill and need to stay home from school. Thank you for communicating with the school when your child is absent due to sickness or illness. If your student is ill and has seen a healthcare provider, please be specific about your student’s condition such as strep throat or pink eye. If your student is ill but has not seen a healthcare provider, please be specific about your student’s symptoms (i.e. fever, vomiting, rash, headache, diarrhea, sore throat, cough, etc) when leaving a message or completing the online absence form. Please do not just indicate that your students is “sick, ill, or not feeling well.” The school is required to complete a daily report stating student illnesses and specific symptoms help create this document more accurately. Thank you for your assistance.
3. Impact Aid
Impact Aid programs and grants are designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget and are critical to ensuring that all children in FCPS receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.
FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources. Each eligible student was given a form this past week. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey by November 4 to their 1st period teacher.
If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. FCPS staff will process the information with the utmost confidentiality. To ensure complete accuracy, please use the pre-filled survey form that was sent home with your child. Thank you for your cooperation in completing these forms to ensure that all eligible funds are received.
4. Community Review of Secondary World Languages Basal Instructional Resources
Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new Secondary World Languages Basal Instructional Resources for the 2023-2024 school year. Basal resources are the primary instructional resources used to teach a given subject. A review committee composed of community members, administrators, and teachers will meet in November and December to review the instructional materials under consideration and community feedback. The process for selecting new resources includes an opportunity for the public to review the instructional materials being considered.
Secondary World Languages Basal Instructional Resources public review will begin Monday, November 7, 2022, and will end on Thursday, December 8, 2022. The instructional resources may be accessed in person and online. Digital materials for public review and comment will be available at the following link https://www.fcps.edu/node/46713. Those reviewing instructional materials may complete an electronic comment sheet available at the following link https://forms.gle/UeMhvzDYgoJM9z1g8. Please note that the digital resources and comment will be updated and made available on November 7, 2022.
Hard copies of instructional materials will also be available at Pimmit Hills Center, Room 207 at 7510 Lisle Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22043. Ask about the World Languages instructional resources at the main office reception desk. All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.
5. Chantilly Veterans Day Event
All veterans, active military personnel, and their families are invited to attend the Chantilly Pyramid Veterans Day Event, hosted by Chantilly High School on November 7 at 6:00pm! The celebration consists of a performance in the auditorium followed by a reception. Please click here to register to attend.
6. Calendar Reminders
Schools are closed for students on Monday, October 31, for a teacher workday. Tuesday, November 8 will be observed as a holiday for students and teachers.
7. Recognitions
Last Saturday, the Mighty Marching Chargers shared their strongest performance of the season, earning a Superior Rating (highest rating possible) at the VBODA State Marching Assessment. The Superior Rating places our entire program in the position to earn recognition this year as a “Virginia Honor Band.” This recognition can be earned by our students later this year should Symphonic Winds also earn Superior Ratings at Concert Band Assessment in March. Congratulations to our students on a stellar performance Saturday – video link below for your viewing pleasure! Catch the next MMC performance during halftime of this Friday’s home football game!

8. Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what will become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I plan to meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.
