Did You Know...

Randy Kulman, Ph.D. from Psychology Today writes, “Screens are not going away, so it's best to view them as something that enriches your children’s lives.” Here are 10 action steps to help manage screen time.

9th grade only: Expunging HS courses taken in Middle School

Per Regulation 2408, current 9th grade students who have taken a High School Credit bearing course in Middle School may expunge this course from the official transcript should they wish, however this must be done prior to the completion of the first 9 weeks of next year.  NO ACTION IS REQUIRED UNLESS YOU WISH TO EXPUNGE THIS GRADE. Should you wish to expunge the following course please complete the “Request to Expunge High School Credit” form, found here: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/is104.pdf

Financial Aid Night

Langley and McLean HS are holding a joint financial aid night event on Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the Langley HS Auditorium. Come learn more about the FAFSA, CSS profile, scholarships, and paying for post-secondary education.  Students and parents are welcome to attend.

TalkingPoints

Langley HS is excited to begin using TalkingPoints! TalkingPoints is an easy and safe way families can communicate in their home languages with their child’s teachers for free. Langley HS (as well as all other FCPS schools) will be using this platform to communicate with you about your child’s education and progress. Please see here for more information about how parents can use TalkingPoints.

SEL Screener

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) commits to supporting all students’ mental wellness and social and emotional learning (SEL). The School Board has approved a screener to review students’ skills and experiences in these areas. SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. More information, including a short video about the SEL screener in FCPS and the screener questions, can be found on the SEL Screener webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/43892). Please contact Mr. Alex Mantel, our SEL screener lead, with questions at armantel@fcps.edu.

At Langley High School, we intend to implement the SEL screener on Tuesday, November 1st during Langley Links. If you do not want your student to take part in the SEL screener, please complete the opt-out by October 14, 2022 via your SIS ParentVUE account, or complete the opt-out form that was mailed in mid-September and deliver to the main office. The opt-out form can be located in various translations here: https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/social-emotional-screener/notification-letters
