Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and the beautiful fall weather.  Yesterday our staff had a very productive day of professional development and planning.  We have 3 weeks remaining in the first quarter.  Please remind your children of the importance of finishing the quarter well by arriving to school on time, giving their very best in class and continuing to find ways to spread kindness.

We are thrilled to share that we are planning field trips this school year.  Our hope is that every grade level will plan two field trips this year.  This week our 4th graders are going to the Kennedy Center and to Jamestown!  What an amazing week they will have. Thank you to the MRES PTA for supporting our efforts to explore the wonders of our area.

We are looking forward to the Ice Cream Social this Friday, October 14.  This event will take place on the school blacktop and is a great way to connect with our MRES students and families.  Just a reminder, these events are family focused and we kindly ask that all students are accompanied by an adult.  We hope to see you there!

This week we modeled kindness across the pyramid. Our own Roadrunner delivered kindness cards to all the other schools in the pyramid.  Stay tuned for our Runathon Video coming soon which highlights our ONE Kindness Campaign!

Have a great week!

Peace.

PTA Update

Walking Wednesday – National Walk to School Day

Join us for National Walk to School Day tomorrow, October 12!  Walking promotes health, fitness, and time together.  It also alleviates traffic congestion during the busy morning drop-offs.  Can’t walk your child all the way from home?  Feel free to park at Vienna Aquatic Club and walk from there!

The PTA will be handing out punch cards at doors 3 and 7 for students who walk or bike to school.  If a student participates in at least 6 Walking Wednesdays during the year, they will be entered into a raffle for a prize at the end of the year.   If you would like to volunteer to hand out and mark punch cards, please sign up here.

Join us for the next PTA Meeting and learn more about Advanced Academics at MRES!

Our next PTA meeting will be held virtually on tomorrow at 7:00 pm.  Mrs. Christine Marucchi our new Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) will introduce herself to the MRES community and present an overview of what advanced academics looks like at MRES.  Within the presentation parents will learn about the four levels of AAP and how teachers are addressing the talents of their students through enrichment.  Mrs. Marucchi will also address questions or comments from the parents in attendance of the PTA meeting.  We will also discuss the Runathon and upcoming plans for fall.

Please use this zoom link to join.

Come Gather with the MRES Community at the Ice Cream Social!

Please join us for an Ice Cream Social on Friday, October 14, 5:30-7:00 pm, outside on the blacktop.  Enjoy free ice cream and time together with the Marshall Road community.  Families needing less stimulation, or a quieter environment, can join us early from 5:00-5:30 pm. Sign up here to help serve ice cream the evening of the event.  We hope to see you there!

Burgers for Bucks at Social Burger

Treat yourself to one of Vienna’s favorite burgers!  Our next Dining 4 Dollars is Tuesday, October 18 at Social Burger.  Dine in or take out from 4:00-8:00 pm and 20% of all sales will be donated to Marshall Road.  No code or flyer needed.  Social Burger sources their ingredients from local vendors, including produce from DePaul’s Urban Farm on 123 in Vienna!  Your purchase will support many links of the local food chains as well as MRES.  Details can be found in this flyer

Fall Garden Cleanup

Join other MRES parents and families for some fresh air and beautification of the school grounds on Saturday, October 22, 9:00 am-12:00 pm.  This is a fun, family friendly event!  Donuts, cider, and water will be provided for volunteers.

We will be weeding, mulching, pruning tree limbs, and planting seeds and perennials including milkweed for our 2023 monarch butterflies.  A few strong sets of arms are needed to prune tree limbs and carry heavy bags.  Consider bringing your own gloves and tools (there will be some available to borrow, too), and wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.  Please sign up here to help here.  Details can be found in this flyer
