Senior Class 2023

October 14, 2022

Happy Friday Fairfax Family! All we do is WIN, WIN, WIN no matter what—this week ends with many things to celebrate. The band, cheerleading team, football team, and volleyball team all secured  the “W”  this week. We are also committed to making sure our students are winning in their academic growth and gains  with a successful PSAT and SAT testing day and also seeing huge improvements in academic grade performances as the quarter is coming to a close. We took our Senior Class panoramic photo this week and are gearing up for college and trade school admissions, final decision tours, application packets, scholarship submissions,  and all things “Class of 2023.” Our goal is to ensure very student has plan for success when they leave Fairfax High! Another WIN was welcoming over 250 future lions to FHS last Friday for our Pyramid Night. Community and connection are key to ensure all students feel excited and welcomed as they prepare to enter our school. Last night we invited over 30 local community members to our Auto Tech Advisory Meeting and the collaborate spirit of promoting CTE and trade work is a focus we are committed to as we prepare our next generation for skilled careers.

We will continue elevating and celebrating student interest and voice here at FHS. With over 90 clubs and activities there is something for everyone to get involved with. Our student clubs have even begun making our Lion Time lessons to inform and educate their peers on their interests and the multiple opportunities to get involved at Fairfax High. We continue to collaborate with George Mason University and our student stakeholders group, which is promoting equity in our school community. We now have Lion Leads in each advisory and these student ambassadors serve as a voice and champion for their peers as we work hard to ensure we meet all students’ needs.

Every Student, Every Strength, Every Day here at Fairfax High.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

Dr Reid stands next to Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander

Beginning October 18, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If Sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All responses are confidential.

Watch the video to learn more about this process.

Bullying Prevention Month

National Bullying Prevention Month - October

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying in FCPS’ Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. Bullying includes cyberbullying. It does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”

For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation, please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something going on at school, please contact the front office, so they can support you, and most importantly, your student.

Attendance Reminders

Attendance Matters

As the holiday season approaches, families are reminded that if you know your student will be out of school for a significant amount of time, a completed Prearranged Absence Form needs to be submitted to the Attendance Office at least 3 to 5 days prior to the date of absence. This allows enough time for the request to be approved and processed by an administrator, and for SIS to be updated.

Please see our Attendance Policies & Procedures for more information.
