Message from Ms. Kearns
Dear Lake Braddock Families,
This week has definitely been a different week here at Lake Braddock. We began this week with a student holiday on Monday, and I was excited to go and cheer on our Cheer Squad in the Patriot District Cheer Semifinals.
Thank you to our awesome new Assessment Coaches, Tre Fava and Kim Vaughn, our PSAT/SAT day was a success on Wednesday!
We hope everyone in our Lake Braddock community has a wonderful and restful fall weekend ahead!
Go Bruins!
Lindsey Kearns
LB had a special visitor this past week: Former exchange student, Sarah Beale (class of 2000)! After running track here at LB, she returned to England and played Rugby in college and then joined their pro team; playing in the World Cup in 2010. Tradition is to take a jersey worn in the game back to one of their schools! Mr. Agner proudly accepted the jersey! We are...worldwide #BruinNation.

Impact Aid Survey Coming Soon!
Beginning on October 18, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 4. All results are confidential.
Watch the video to learn more about this process.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow-Message from the LB Attendance Team
Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.
Take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to ensure that any trips or family events are on weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10 percent of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”
When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to the school. Our attendance policies are on LBSS website. Visit our FCPS Attendance webpage for resources on attendance.

9th Grade Wellness Screening November 14 and 16
On Monday, October 17, all 9th grade students will receive a letter to bring home regarding a county-wide initiative to identify and help students who are struggling with depression and possible thoughts of suicide. On November 14 and 16th, all 9th grade students will participate in a presentation and survey about signs of depression in their Advisory Class, which will take place during 2nd period on those days.
Parents are invited to review the materials by accessing the SOS Parent Portal. This portal is designed to provide parents with information about suicide prevention efforts, view the SOS videos, and access educational materials which are helpful tools for supporting your child’s mental health wellness.
If you do NOT wish for your student to participate in the 9th grade presentation, please return the opt out form provided to your child on October 17 no later than November 9.
Please contact Ms. Ghafoori at 703-426-1064 or Ms. Naughton at 703-426-1155 if you have any questions.
Schedule Change November 14/16 and December 5/7
Due to the 9th Grade Wellness Screening on November 14th and 16th and the 11th Grade Wellness Screening on December 5th and 7th, there will be a schedule change on these are gold days. In order to deliver this assessment, 2nd and 8th periods will be swapped on those days. This swap is shown in our Purple/Gold calendar.
