Dear Stenwood Families,
We have had quite a busy week here in the Hive! Most importantly we celebrated our amazing custodians for Custodian Appreciation Week! We kicked off the week with our first family invite of the year with our 2nd graders. We had over 80 family members come to play math games! Tuesday we enjoyed our popsicle party! Thank you so much to the parents who volunteered to cut all of the popsicles open and distribute them. Our 1st graders went on a field trip to Cox Farms yesterday and enjoyed the beautiful weather! Our news crew went live for the first time yesterday. Last night we enjoyed seeing so many Stenwood families at Silver Diner for the Dine Out. And, tonight… it is not too late to watch two of our own Stenwood Stingers play against the Harlem Wizards at Marshall High School.
In between all of that fun, our students did a lot of amazing learning! Believe it or not, we are just a few short weeks away from the end of the 1st quarter! Please make sure to look for the conference sign up that your teacher will send out. It is a great opportunity to hear about your child’s progress and how they are doing in the classroom.
Next week our SCA will kick off our Canned Food Drive, it will run from Tuesday 10/11 through 10/21. Thank you for sending in food donations to support food insecure families in our area.
As a reminder, Monday, 10/10 is also a student holiday for the observance of Indigenous Peoples Day.

Setting Media & Device Boundaries with Your Child
Week 5: Common Sense Media
|
|
New apps, movies, video games, shows and podcasts are released everyday and can quickly become overwhelming to learn the positives and negatives of each and if they are appropriate. Questions arise such as: Why is a video game rated T (teen) and not E10+ (Everyone 10+)? How secure is an app? Is our data protected? |
Common Sense Media is a wonderful resource to visit to help parents make decisions best for their family. Common Sense Media provides their own reviews and ratings for media and technology to help guide families on their suitability for children. Search for a specific movie, TV show, app, book, podcast or game you’re curious about or your child is asking about, or view their “Best ___ List” for a quick rundown of their top recommendations.

Positivity Project: Wildcard Week
|
|
This week, teachers are going back and hitting lessons they may have missed or character strengths they feel their students really enjoyed discussing. Over the last six weeks, we have learned about Curiosity, Teamwork, Open-Mindedness, Perspective, and Forgiveness. The important thing to remember is that everyone has ALL 24 strengths within them, but some shine through more than others. |
“Character, not circumstance, makes the person.”
~Booker T. Washington
Questions you might enjoy talking about:
- When you think of character, what comes to mind?
- Do you think character is just ONE thing, or multiple things?
- Why do we need to continue educating ourselves about character?
