Franklin MS Weekly Update - September 30

Franklin Families and Students,

Good Afternoon.

When our students return to school next week, it will be October! There is a lot happening at Franklin and we are excited for what lies ahead. Be sure to check out the wide variety of choices your student can be a part of during our After School program. This is a great way for all Franklin Falcons to meet other students, share their talents, and be leaders in our school.

During the next several weeks, we will also be using this Weekly Update as an opportunity to highlight several important people at our school. We will start by spotlighting our amazing Family Liaison, Mrs. Janet McFadden.

Family Liaisons work in the schools and community to help families connect with the information and assistance they need to support their children and to ensure their academic success. The Family Liaisons represent a variety of cultures, languages, and races and help families understand the school's culture, policies, procedures, and practices. They can also help our families to become aware of resources within the community.

At Franklin MS, we are grateful for the support and work of our Family Liaison, Janet McFadden, who is also fluent in Spanish. We encourage you to reach out to Janet at 703-904-5236 or jamcfadden@fcps.edu at any time. She is here to support our families and our students.

Always feel free to reach out to me directly at dpwright@fcps.edu with questions, feedback, and suggestions.

Thank you for all that you do to support your student's success at Franklin.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Principal

All Franklin students are welcome to join the after school program. If your student has not yet participated, it’s not too late! Most activities are drop in and your child will not need to sign up in advance. Our late bus days are Mondays - Thursdays. A couple new activities include Dungeons & Dragons, Fencing, Volleyball, and a Best Buddies interest meeting. The schedule for the next two weeks can be found here. For questions regarding the After School Program, please email Mrs. Mollé.

Community Visit with Dr. Reid at Oakton HS on October 11

Please save the date for a very special event!  Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS superintendent, will host a Community Conversation at Oakton High School on Tuesday, October 11 from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM. This event will be a unique opportunity to help Dr. Reid get to know the Oakton Pyramid school community and learn more about her vision for our district.

Language interpretation will be provided, as available, as well as child care and light refreshments. Please register here to attend.

From Oakton HS - DIGPINK Volleyball Night on October 13

Please click here for information on DIGPINK Volleyball Night at Oakton HS on October 13. This is the first DIGPINK night to be hosted since pre-Covid due to the restrictions at events and school renovations so we are hoping to make this a large family friendly event. Please join us for a great night of volleyball and support a great cause. This year we will be playing Madison for our DIGPINK night.

FMS PTA Dining for Dollars on October 19 - Chipotle at Franklin Farm

Please consider joining us at Chipotle in Franklin Farm on October 19 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM for our October Dining for Dollars Fundraiser. Dine in and let them know you are there for the Franklin fundraiser or order online and use the code WCBCBVD to make sure that Franklin MS receives 33% of the sales. Thank you for your support!

FCPS Tabletop Exercise

On Monday, the Franklin MS Crisis Team participated in an FCPS Tabletop Exercise with members of FCPS Office of Safety and Security team. At this meeting we were able to talk through how we would react and lead students and staff through various emergency situations such as Lockdown; Secure the Building; Stay Put, Stay Tuned; and Shelter in Place. Safety drills will continue to be reviewed and practiced. Fire evacuation drills are practiced monthly and we will communicate further information about the frequency of other safety drills. We take all practice drills very seriously so that in the case of an emergency, staff and students will be calm and prepared.

At the end of our training, Franklin MS was recognized for our preparedness and knowledge of best practices. Please view this video to learn more about each type of drill and click here to access the FCPS Safety and Security website.
