Reminder: No School Tomorrow, Oct 5th

Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. To mark this day, which begins at sundown on Tuesday, October 4, Tuesday is noted as a ½ religious/cultural observance date on the FCPS calendar. Wednesday, October 5, is a holiday for teachers and students (only 12 month employees report). See the complete 2022-23 school year calendar.

Our Cub Council has been hard at work planning for our school community. These third grade student leaders gather to support the whole school while adding their student voice. This group is facilitated by one of our school counselors, Mrs. Corri Shusterman. Check out the "save the dates" below for upcoming details.

Friday October 14 is Crazy Socks Day
Celebrate SOCKTOBER! Wear a pair, bring a pair to share.  Help the Lake Braddock pyramid collect socks for those in need this winter; donations will go to local shelters and ECHO. On Friday October 14th, wear crazy socks to school and bring one pair of new socks to donate. Each classroom will have a collection bag. Child and adult socks are welcome.

Friday October 28 is Storybook Character Day
Help Kings Park ES celebrate our love for literacy. Dress up as your favorite storybook character. Bring your favorite book along! Be creative, but no masks or weapons.

School Photos

Specific Preschool, Kinder and Second Grade, Tuesday, October 11th
Specific Preschool, First and Third Grade, Wednesday, October 12th  

All students will be photographed for school records either Tuesday, October 11th (Kindergarten and Second Grade) or Wednesday, October 12th   (First and Third Grade).  Package options from Strawbridge Studios can be found electronically through the attached link.  Additionally, paper copies will be sent home in your student’s Take Home Envelope.

Parents can choose to purchase photos, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting our school.  If you decide to order a photo package, please return the envelope to school by photo day. Photos should arrive in a few weeks.  Make-up photos and re-takes will occur Wednesday December 7th.  For questions you can go to Strawbridge.net and enter the on-line code FM397770. 

Advanced Academics 

The Kings Park and Kings Glen Advanced Academics Resource Teachers, Mrs. Keane and Mrs. Rode, have collaborated to create another informational video about Advanced Academics. This video focuses specifically on the screening process for Level IV (full-time) AAP services. Students can be screened in grades 2-7, for services in grades 3-8.  Mrs. Keane and Mrs. Rode will be co-hosting a question-and-answer (Q&A) session on Zoom to address any questions about the Level IV (full-time) screening process. To receive the Zoom link, please sign up no later than Monday, October 10th, at https://forms.gle/c4gqSzSW9UX6yUZZ8.

Yearbook Cover Art Contest

Our KP/KG PTA is looking for student created artwork for the 2022-23 yearbook cover. The theme this year is Great Minds at Work. Please see the contest flier for more details. Deadline is Oct 18th. Turn it in to your child's teacher or email to yearbook4kp@gmail.com

PTA News

Fall Photoshoot (rescheduled to 10/9 due to inclement weather).  We’re glad to announce that Susan Johnson will be back on Sunday, October 9th from 2-4pm to take family pictures at KPES outside on the grass in front of the playground.  This fantastic opportunity will cost you $40 for two photos, including digital access.  Please sign up here.  Lisa Anderson will be there to collect coats on behalf of ECHO - we appreciate your donations; all sizes are needed!

Chick-Fil-A Spirit Week.  As a reminder, our highly successful Spirit Week is back this week, October 3-7.  Order all week, at any time of the day, and just mention the KP/KG PTA at the Burke Chick-Fil-A - 15% of the proceeds will be donated back to your school!

InCourage Parents Night Out on Friday, October 14, 6:30-8:30 PM.  The cost is $45/child; more information coming soon!

FREE PTA Fall-tastic Fun Festival on October 15, 1:30-4:30 PM.  Our second PTA event will be held at Burke Station Swim Club.  Come by for some fall fun, including crafts, candy apples, empanada food truck (for purchase), games, entertainment, and more!

PTA General Membership Meeting on Monday, October 17, 7 PM.  This meeting will be at Kings Park and also available virtually through zoom; more information coming soon!

Join the PTA.  Thanks to everyone that has already joined the PTA for the 2022-2023 school year!  We hope all families will consider joining this year.  Being a PTA member has numerous benefits --  it's a great way to meet new friends and become more involved in your child's school and community.  Join on our website!
