Dear Dogwood families,

Happy New Year to our families who celebrate Rosh Hasanah! We hope you are having a wonderful time eating your apples with honey and bringing in your new year.

The season of Fall is among us! As the weather turns a little cooler, please write students’ names in anything extra they may bring to stay warm. This will help get it back to your child if they leave it on the playground or on the floor of their classroom.

We have a wonderful opportunity for your family to be creative and innovative in our first ever Cardboard Challenge on Wednesday, September, 28th from 5:30-7:00 PM. A flier was sent home to register your group. This is a fun way to help inspire your child to build whatever they can dream.

South Lakes Homecoming is on October 21st after school. We would love all of our Dragons to come out with Dragon Pride and represent us in the Homecoming parade. Parents do need to accompany students for this fun time, but we would LOVE to have a great showing. We will meet at the parking lot of Safeway. More details to come.

October 27th we will host our Trunk or Treat!!!! Our staff and community members will decorate their cars and hand our spooky treats as we celebrate the fun of the season. This year, Mr. Ericson will host a fitness walk from the community center to the school for Trunk or Treat. Come dressed up in your costume, or simply as you are, to enjoy the festivities.

Parent conferences are happening and it is of the utmost importance that families and the school work together to meet the needs of your child. We look forward to seeing you at school.

We have wonderful things happening at Dogwood! We hope to see you often.

Rosh Hasanah

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is one of Judaism’s holiest days. Meaning “head of the year” or “first of the year,” the festival begins on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, which falls during September or October. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday, also known as the Day of Atonement.
