Belvedere News and Announcements - September 30, 2022

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

Fall is in the air! We hope you are enjoying the cooler temperatures and some time outdoors.  The weather is perfect for outdoor recess.

One of the ways in which we use Title I funds is to support extended team planning time.  We are so excited to have brought back team planning days.  Pre-pandemic our teams spend 4-6 days out of the year planning for the upcoming units of inquiry.  Guided by Ms. Rogers, PYP Coordinator, and with the support of math and literacy resource teachers Ms. Dillane, Ms. Mundy, Ms. Smith and Ms. Davis, teams immerse themselves in the unit of inquiry, exploring the meaning of the central idea and agreeing on learning outcomes for the students.  Teachers spend time learning together, engaging in some of the same learning experiences the students will explore, and reflect together. At the end of the day, they walk away with clarity about the purpose of the unit and how they will guide students and facilitate their learning across subject areas.

Thank you for your ongoing support.  We are so honored to facilitate your children’s learning.

Author Julie Dao Visits Belvedere

On Thursday, September 29th we were delighted to host author Julie Dao for all of our 4th and 5th grade students. Ms. Dao shared her writing process and gave our learners important tips to be successful writers. You should ask them about why lots of “eyeballs” are important! The event was sponsored by local bookstore Bards Alley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. Copies of Ms. Dao’s book Team Chu and the Battle of Blackwood Arena were given to the library and our 4th and 5th grade classroom libraries. We are grateful for local community partnerships.

Throughout the year more authors will be brought in for our other grade levels. Please set aside Wednesday, October 19th from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. as Hena Khan visits all of our Belvedere community. More details to come!

Attendance Awareness Month

When Should My Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit our site for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and your school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify us so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse, and call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long. Attend today, Achieve Tomorrow!

Parental Permission to Use Digital Resources

Your child will not have access to certain resources and tools until your consent is provided.

SR&R Signature Sheet Due September 30

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.
Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/caregiver with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.
Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/caregiver’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30.

Visit the SIS Parentvue Account Overview page for help logging in to your account.
