Attendance Month

When Should My Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit our site for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and your school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify Shahenil Grealish, Public Health Nurse at 703-426-3610, so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse and call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long. Attend today, Achieve Tomorrow!

Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

digital re

At Ravensworth ES our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: Ravensworth Digital Resources Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources.

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Staffing Opportunities

Substitute Teachers: FCPS and Ravensworth will need substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants this year. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. Like many school districts across the region and country, FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. If you are interested in working as a substitute teacher or substitute instructional assistant, you can set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist!

If you would like to learn more about becoming a substitute teacher or instructional assistant, please call 571-423-3000 for information. FCPS is offering weekly virtual information sessions on Wednesdays from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Candidates will receive an email link to the virtual information session the Monday before the session.
